The large penthouse makes for luxurious stay. Accommodates up to 6 people. The flat is full of natural light and has recently been completely renovated to a high standard ideal for a comfortable weekend or week-long stay.
Within a 5-minute walk to a large public historical park with an abundance of activities. Or, if a slower pace of life is what you are looking for, there is the legendry artisan café called ‘The Stables’ at the top of Gladstone park a 2-minute walk from the property.

The space
The beautiful penthouse apartment is located within Chartwell Court which was formally known as Dollis Hill Research Centre. Before conversion to apartments the building was used by the GPO (General Post Office) as a scientific facility. The research team and led by Tommy Flowers was responsible for developing and building the world’s first programable computer (called Colossus) at Chartwell, it was later moved to Bletchley park to help the code breakers. Colossus broke the enigma codes which eventually helped bring World War II to an early end.
Also, on the site is Winston Churchills Cabinet reserve war bunker which can be visited up to 4 times a year. On the grounds at Chartwell Court is a charming large natural pond and recreational (BBQ seating etc. Archaeology suggest the pond started life as an early Roman sandpit. 18th Century maps of the area depict the pond (in its current recognisable shape) within agricultural fields, well before Chartwell Court was built in 1933. It is the only remaining link between Urban and Modern Dollis Hill and is of significant cultural and local historical importance.
In short you are staying within a piece of History hugely important not only to British Culture but also significant globally as this is where Colossus (the world’s first programable computer) was built and housed. Bill Gates himself acknowledges the site and the technological legacy of those that once worked there.

Location

Greater London, England, United Kingdom

Dollis Hill and Brook Road are both gorgeous and quiet, making you feel a million miles away from the City yet you’re within a stone’s throw of the hustle and bustle of one of the most extraordinary Cities in the world. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the culture, sights and sounds of Central London, the abundance of public transport options can have you there in 30minutes.
The property is situated conveniently between the following local hotspots;
GLADSTONE PARK is serene and only a 2-minute walk from the property. The park has a formal garden, duck pond, varied terrain, woodland, hedgerows and open ground, all of which change with the seasons, Mark Twain spent many an evening feasting on the views and taking the air as a guest of the then Prime Minster Gladstone whose residence once graced the site.
On clear days it offers views from the top of the hill (65 metres above sea level) of London and the surrounding area, including Wembley Stadium, Parliament, the City, the London Eye and the Shard.
FUN FACT: On the night of 23 August 2014 the park was used for a marriage proposal with hundreds of candles spelling out, "Will you marry me?" A Metropolitan Police helicopter picked up the message with its thermal imaging camera and shared the image on Twitter as "the most romantic guy in North London"
STAPLES CORNER has a cinema and is only 15-minute walk.
BRENT CROSS is a 10-minute bus journey. An enormous shopping centre offering all High Street and luxury shops, you can buy anything from clothes to furniture.
WEST HAMPSTEAD is mainly residential with several small shops, restaurants, cafes, bakeries concentrated on the northern section of West End Lane and around West End Green and hosts a weekly Farmers market every Saturday only 25 minutes away It is served by three stations: West Hampstead on the Jubilee line, West Hampstead Overground station and West Hampstead Thameslink station.
WEMBLEY The property is only a 20-minute journey (by bus or by tube) to Wembley stadium. One of the UK’s most prestigious sport and live music venues.
HAMPSTEAD HEATH The heath is rambling and hilly, embracing ponds, recent and ancient woodlands, a lido, playgrounds, and a training track, and it adjoins the former stately home of Kenwood House and its estate. The south-east part of the heath is Parliament Hill, from which the view over London is protected by law. Along its eastern perimeter are a chain of ponds – including three open-air public swimming pools. Located only 30minutes away from the property.
