Step back into time. Allow yourself a chance to take a breath. Relax. Eldred Homestead was built in 1848 on the rolling hills of Kalamazoo County, by the founder of Climax , Thomas Eldred. Climax is a small village located between the hustle and bustle of Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. A quiet rural community, yet unexpectedly rich in history.

The space
Thomas Eldred moved his family to Michigan in 1848 to begin a grainery. It was of most importance to establish the makings of the grainery before a fine home could be built. The family resided in the enclosed post and beam framed windmill before construction of the brick home was completed.
The windmill, one of the last to remain standing, now houses a vintage shoppe on premise. Guest simple must gaze in wonder of the construction of the windmill. The brick home is said to be constructed of bricks made of clay locally dug and kiln dried on site. Eldred Homestead sits on 17 acres of beautiful land. Feel free to wander the gardens, relax on a bench, walk in the woods. Wonder of times the Homestead was said to be part of the Underground Railroad, when people passed through here on their way to freedom: when Masons met in the attic.
Inside the home you will find it tastefully decorated with antique funishings, yet comfortable. Socialize in front of the fireplace in the great room. Read quietly in the library. Find your own comfortable spot.
