Nestled just above the babbling Elk Creek, an ideal backdrop for a tranquil morning cup of coffee, daydreaming and sitting around the picnic table sharing stories. Just an hour west of Denver, this humble abode is just minutes from Colorado’s finest fly-fishing, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, bird watching, and nature spotting. A sure fairytale in the making.

The space
***Beginning 11/1 thru 3/1, 4WD is required and high clearance recommended for access to the cabin. Colorado weather is unpredictable and this will be at your own risk. If you are traveling from out of state, please be sure you understand CO travel laws for tire requirements and be mindful that you are staying in a 100 year old cabin.***

Enjoy this 100 year old cabin with a few modern touches. Beautifully furnished with French Country you'll cozy right in and never want to leave. There is a master bedroom with its own private deck and sleeps two on a cozy wrought iron queen size bed. In the sunroom, there is a beautiful wrought iron trundle bed that sleeps 2 with amazing 280-degree views. Find ceiling fans in both of the sleeping rooms to help circulate cool air in the summer and warm air on cold winter nights. For a modern touch, there is a bathroom with shower and toilet off the master bedroom to make you feel right at home. The couch on lower level can be folded out for additional sleeping area if needed. The cabin does have Wi-Fi, however, it can be finicky. The cabin is stocked with a large selection of DVDs for all ages, games and puzzles. In cooler seasons, the ambiance and added heat of the pellet stove will make you want to dive into a good book. The vintage kitchen is equipped with modern appliances, (no dishwasher). For convenience, there is a microwave, coffee maker and some cooking basics (pots, pans, etc.). When you don't feel like cooking, try the famous Bucksnort Saloon just a stone's throw away. The covered porch is great for listening to the live music or watching the patrons of the Bucksnort while enjoying your own favorite end of day beverage. For more quiet time or the grilling enthusiast, the sun deck is equipped with wrought iron table, chairs and a gas grill. Every day is an adventure at the Hummingbird Hideaway; you’ll surely find a special space to enjoy the nature, wildlife, and the locals.

Other things to note
Cabin is uniquely nestled into the side of the many majestic rock outcroppings that are signature to this special mountain area. It is recommended to plan your arrival during the daylight making the adventure of finding the cabin a little easier. Cellular service becomes limited once traveling Elk Creek road but this is a great time to roll down the windows, breathe in the mountain air and enjoy the slow drive. There is a short distance on a dirt road as you near the cabin and the initial descent into the driveway is typical to the area but can feel steep to some drivers. Slow and steady will get you to the cabin located at the end of this short driveway, so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time. During Fall, Winter and Spring SUV's and 4WD is recommended - low clearance vehicles please inquire with host.

Sphinx Park is a very old subdivision that got its name from "Sphinx Head Rock" (which you can see outside our cabin) and has been a tourist destination for almost a century. Anglers from Denver and other tourist would head up the hill for not only fishing but cooler weather during the hot months of summer. Tourist's also come to enjoy the natural splendor of the area including Elk Creek Falls (located in Staunton State Park), Elephant Rock (at the bottom of Elk Creek Road) and other features such as Balancing Rock and Cathedral Spires.
