HELLO and WELCOME !!
Your apartment is a bright comfortable space in on the ground floor of my house (It's not a basement) It has lots of windows that let in lots of light and fresh air in a sweet neighborhood. Fully equipped kitchen, comfy beds....15 minutes from the airport and Easy access to Mauna Kea, Volcano National Park, Akaka Falls, the Botanical Gardens. 15 minute walk to downtown Hilo, the farmer's market.... Beaches, Snorkeling, surfing all close by! Come ENJOY!

The space
Your apartment, with its separate entrance is on the lower level of the house. Lots of windows makes it bright and cheerful with a great cross breeze. It's a great place to come back to after a day filled with fun and wonder....relax, restore and get ready for more!
It is a 1 bedroom apartment that sleeps up to 4 people. There is one queen size bed(firm), very comfortable I'm told, and there is a futon sofa for hanging out on during the day which opens into a comfy bed that sleeps another 2 people at night.
There is a drop-leaf pub style table in the kitchen that seats 2-4 people and the kitchen has everything you need just like home....a full size fridge, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes etc.... so you can make whatever you want to for breakfast, lunch, picnics, dinner OR you can bring home your leftovers from whichever of the many delicious restaurants you decide to dine at and warm them up for your next meal. And to round it out there are a couple of comfy chairs in the sitting area with the futon sofa where you can relax and listen to music, watch a movie or investigate your next day's outing on your computer using the available wifi and now there is a NEW SMART TV!!
Side note for super tall people. . .the ceiling is a bit lower than standard so watch your head!

Guest access
There is access to the washer and dryer for a nominal fee at designated times. Please let me know if you need to use the laundry facilities so we can arrange a good time for both of us.

On the fun side there are body boards, snorkels/masks/fins, tennis rackets, a picnic backpack set, a cooler available for you to use to enhance your vacation fun!

Other things to note
There is a middle school behind the house so you will likely hear the school bell ring in the morning and there is more traffic for about a half hour around 7:45-8:15. Also they seem to be a bit eager when it comes to grounds keeping … they start mowing pretty early.

For those sensitive to sounds:
Since the apartment is on the ground level of my house and I live in the upper part, you may hear me (or my dog) walking around sometimes. Many guests have told me that it is not bothersome but if you are sensitive to noise this is something you may want to consider.
My house, like many houses in Hawaii have jalousie (louver) windows. This type of window tends to allow more outside sounds to be heard than you may be used to..... including as already mentioned, the school bells, as well as the kokee frogs at night, and the neighbors' cars, wind chimes, dogs, the wind and rain etc...

Location

Hilo, Hawaii, United States

We are in a quiet neighborhood less than a mile from downtown Hilo and the ocean. There are a couple of grocery stores and LOTS of places to eat within a mile of my house.
It’s worth repeating here that There is a middle school behind the house so you will likely hear the school bell ring in the morning and alot more traffic for about a half hour around 7:45-8:15. Also they seem to be a bit eager when it comes to grounds keeping … they start mowing and weed whacking pretty early.

We are very close to many of Hilo's favorite attractions including:
10-15 minute walk
- Downtown Hilo and Bayfront
- the famous Hilo Market (wed/sat)
- Lyman Museum
- Tsunami museum (URL HIDDEN)
- Rainbow Falls

10 − 30 minute drive
- Liliuokalani Park and Coconut Island
- Akaka Falls
- Pahoa

Within an hour's drive
- the Volcano
- Mauna Kea
- Waipio Valley
- Waimea
- Volcano Golf course and Volcano winery, most southern winery in the US
