Amp Camp is the perfect excuse for a weekend away in the Blue Mountains while you build your own top end hifi tube amp. You’ll enjoy a true mountains experience staying at Falls Lodge with Amp Camp right next door.

Falls Lodge itself is a secluded and spacious bungalow amidst nearly an acre of lush, private gardens; no through traffic. It is an open plan, light-filled house, lined in wood with cathedral ceilings. Contact us to discuss your project before booking. Camp is the day after arrival

The space
Your choice of amplifier project (or projects) for Amp Camp is organised directly with Tube Sound Audio and is not included in the cost of accommodation. Google Tube Sound Audio to view the amp projects available. Your choice should be completed before making your accommodation booking to ensure all materials are available for your stay.

Amp Camp is designed for those who may never have lifted a soldering iron, perused a circuit diagram or stripped a wire but have always had a hankering to ‘roll their own’. Amp Camp is equally for those who may have built, back in the day, but perhaps no longer have the tools or space or perhaps feel a tad rusty. Amp Camp provides an escape for a day or two in the serenity of the Blue Mountains while you build a high quality tube hi-fi amplifier.

Amp Camp is about providing an enjoyable build experience, providing instruction in mastering the skills and using the tools required as you build your own tube amp. It is about the practical rather than the theoretical.

Importantly, it is about a guaranteed result. Once you’ve completed your amp it will be installed in the Lodge’s sound system for you to enjoy during the balance of your stay.

Come to Amp Camp with a partner or a mate or two; enjoy the comraderie of a team build! Falls Lodge’s rambling garden is full of mature shrubs and trees, and provides complete privacy and a sense of seclusion. There is ample off street parking at Falls Lodge (there are two driveway entrance/exits) and undercover parking for two cars in the drive through carport which allows unpacking adjacent to the front door. Whilst only two minutes’ drive from the Village and the highway, yet you may feel you are experiencing quiet for the first time.

You’ll enjoy outdoor eating off the barbeque or more formally indoors around the massive redwood dining table.

Bedrooms are airy given the cathedral ceilings and look out on the surrounding gardens. The house is surrounded by a shady deck and there are five external doorways.

Large traditional kitchen/family room with lots of bench space and adjoining dining room, including 6 seat dining suite also adjoining the deck. Equipment includes gas oven/cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and continuous ice-maker fridge.

Master bedroom with queen size bed and modern ensuite bathroom and picture windows overlooking lush, private gardens. Second bedroom with queen size bed, full-wall built-in cupboards, also with garden views as does the third bedroom where the bedding can be configured as two singles or as a king. The beds have electric blankets, linens are high quality and each bed is furnished with extra pillows.

The large modern main bathroom includes a deep, full-sized bath and separate shower.

The lounge room’s state of the art tube hi-fi is set up for easy BlueTooth connection to your smart phone, tablet or PC and the large flat-screen smart TV has NBN internet. Wi-Fi is provided.

Laundry with front-load washer and separate clothes dryer. Outside, undercover clothes line.

Location

Wentworth Falls, New South Wales, Australia

Falls Lodge is located in the Blue Mountains in Wentworth Falls, NSW, Australia.

You’ll find us in an extremely quiet, leafy setting at the end of a typical Blue Mountains spur, surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. The Blue Mountains National Park is at the bottom of the street for those who like a challenging trail walk (full details in our onsite manual) at their doorstep.

Wentworth Falls Village is a three minute drive away, Leura is eight minutes up the road, and Katoomba is ten.

The Wentworth Falls Village itself offers a number of excellent cafes and restaurants, a bakery, pharmacy, medical services, a food hall, a bottle shop, butcher and greengrocer, an antiques shop and a newsagent/post office, as well as the recently refurbished heritage Grandview Hotel.

Local restaurants include pizza (two, both catering for eat-in plus takeaway), Chinese (award winning), traditional at the Hotel as well as contemporary at the Blue Mist. The old Post Office is now a café with a famous array of mouth-watering cakes baked fresh on the premises. The Persian Orange Cake is a personal favourite!

Up the road is Leura, with its picturesque village atmosphere, markets, galleries, cafes and boutique shopping. Just a few minutes further and Katoomba awaits.

Walking in the Blue Mountains is world renowned and rightly so. At Wentworth Falls, walkers can take the specially marked trail and follow in the exact footsteps of Charles Darwin, who visited the area and walked from what is now the Village down to the Wentworth Falls themselves. There are short and longer walks on offer around the Falls with spectacular views of the waterfall from below, as well as above. Canyoning is now available too.

See our onsite manual for complete details of some of the many terrific walks in the area, including at Katoomba and Blackheath.

Katoomba offers The Edge multiplex cinema and further up the highway at Mt Victoria there is Mount Vic Flicks. This is a not-to-be missed ‘old times’ cinema experience in a revamped 1930s public hall, where you can buy home-made soup and baked goods to enjoy as you watch a mainstream or art house ‘flick’.

We try keep our onsite manual is up to date with full details of current screenings, as well as information about the various festivals, markets and shows that are regularly staged in and around the Upper Mountains.

Tube Sound Audio also conducts ‘Amp Camps’ (workshops in tube amplifier construction) in the separate onsite studio.

I am a retired business manager and now run workshops in tube hi-fi amplifier construction, as well as producing the leading vinyl record restorer, The Vinyl Record Cleaning System and TSA Loudspeakers. I have lived in this house, Falls Lodge, in Wentworth Falls for many years and have a passion for the serenity of the Blue Mountains. I very much enjoy the sense of being away from the pressures and sprawl of big city life. Here in the mountains, things seem to move at a slower pace, in keeping with the seasons and the weather. My garden is a constant source of calm and is regularly visited by the local bird life. Friends and family who visit me often say they breathe more deeply up here and sleep more soundly. Even after just a weekend, they feel refreshed and revitalised. With some recent changes in my family circumstances, I’m now able to share this special place with others. My aim is to do all I can to ensure you have a comfortable and relaxing stay!
