I stayed here in March (2017) and the house had a bat infestation. When we arrived there were two dead bats inside (on one of the single beds as well as on the living room floor), and at night we realised they were also living/trapped inside of the walls - they were loud and would scratch the walls. We alerted the host and later requested a partial refund (half of the price of our two night stay) due to the circumstances. The host denied and said that the request was ‘excessive’ and forwarded me an article stating that bats make ‘quite good house-guests’. Given the location, wild-life was expected, but certainly not inside of the house and certainly not dead on the bed.

Response from Margaret:
Emma has made an exaggerated assessment of the cleanliness of the house. Bats were not trapped in the walls. I was there a couple of days later after her departure and there was no sound of bats at all. Occasionally, in very hot weather, all houses in the area may get visitations from a protected local species of miniature bats. We have done all we can to prevent them going into the walls of the house but they can get through a small crack where a large spider can go. It is illegal to kill them but they are completely harmless to humans. The house was cleaned & checked on the day of the guest's arrival and there were no dead bats there then. Moore House is in an isolated position and is very private which many people appreciate. This is one of the things which can happen in the country. We can also get snakes, wombats and kangaroos around the house but we can't prevent them either. The dead bat which this guest found was in the loft, not in the room where she slept. This guest also alleged that the shower curtain at the house was very mouldy. I checked it personally after their stay and it was perfectly clean. I did not refund any money to this guest as everything possible was done to make this and all our guests' stays comfortable. This was probably not the right house for her as it is in such a rural situation.

Very peaceful and quiet location; stunning setting. The cottage is very well presented with all the necessary amenities to provide a relaxing and comfortable break. Wonderful spot!

Thanks for your very positive feedback which I really appreciate. I would like to provide WiFi at the house but the reception is very patchy, just like the phone and I would prefer not to provide it rather than deal with all the calls I would get saying that it has just dropped out. I am waiting for the NBN rollout to revisit the situation as we would all like it to be better, just like the phone!

We try to keep television watching to a minimum as that is what everybody does at home. It is all a question of personal taste but we prefer not to have it as the focus of the living area and indoor life hence the books, games and piano. The upstairs window can be opened and at this time of year there will be plenty of cooler air outside to temper the ambiance. However I have noted your comments and take that on board. It is difficult to please everybody!

We really enjoyed our stay at Moore house - it was clean, quiet and very comfortable. The cottage has everything you could ever need and was the perfect base for exploring the area. And while it could easily fit a family of 6, it didn't feel too big for just the 2 of us either. We would definitely stay again.
