Beautiful area

Perched high in the Otways, just 5 mins from Skenes Creek beach (great surfing) and 11 mins from Apollo Bay, The Eyrie is a beautiful property with two split-level homes overlooking the Southern Ocean, with waterfalls, walks, rainforest and views at every turn.

The space
Welcome to The Eyrie. We'd (me and the llamas) love to have you stay, experience our rainforest and waterfall walk, and completely relax with sunset over the Otways.

This is a very special place, so in your planning try to allow a few days to see and experience all that is here. The most common comment of previous guests is that their stay wasn't long enough (but of course the real world doesn't always allow for that).

So starting with the house: Eyrie House @ The Eyrie caters for up to eight guests very comfortably, but remains wonderfully cosy for just two. Every room features spectacular views, even the bathrooms!

Eyrie House is designed with two separate bedroom+bathroom areas: downstairs, two bedrooms (one with queen bed and ensuite, and one with two single beds), directly off the lounge; upstairs, two bedrooms (each with queen bed) sharing a large bathroom.

The living areas (lounge, dining, sitting, kitchen) downstairs have split system heating and air-conditioning, and your choice of open fire or efficient slow combustion stove, with a wood box metres away. There's a large lounge area with a modern flat screen internet-enabled TV and great views; an adjacent dining area with room for eight offers even better views over the Southern Ocean and coast.

The tasteful kitchen, featuring beautiful blackwood benches and doors, has all the facilities and equipment you need including microwave, electric oven, gas cook-top, full fridge/freezer, large dishwasher, toaster, etc. Next to the kitchen is a fully equipped laundry with washer and dryer.

There are two main outdoor areas: the large deck out to the sea-side has tables, chairs and that amazing view, with the land below dropping steeply away into a deep gully and then on out to the coast. The north facing spacious patio out the back, with a 6-burner BBQ/lid/side burner, picnic table and seats, gets the most sun and enjoys a protected garden setting.

The house is surrounded on all sides by lovely gardens. Plenty of parking is available.

On 27 acres, The Eyrie has a mix of rainforest and grazing land (we run some sheep here, two llamas and two miniature highland cows). There are many places to walk, enjoying the diverse views from the high grazing paddocks and then plunging into the forest along our forest stone pathway and viewing/absorbing our beautiful waterfall.

The Eyrie is very private. No one will disturb your stay, except perhaps the local wildlife - koalas, parakeets and rosellas, kookaburras, wallabies, and of course some resident sheep!

Eyrie House is warm in winter - a slow burner combustion heater does the job - and delightfully cool in summer courtesy of sea breezes that flow up the valley (and of course split-system air-conditioning if required).

Despite the seclusion, you are connected (if you want!): high speed wireless broadband to all rooms, flat screen TVs, restaurants and shops 10 mins away.

Please note: we do have an external security camera in the entranceway, to monitor the driveway.

Guest access
The property has two houses, separated by ~100m of pasture, fences and trees. You won't see or hear anything of the other house.
The entire 27 acre property is open to you to explore, and there is a ~2km signposted walk around the property that includes rainforest, pasture, incredible views from handcrafted benches and a gorgeous waterfall. It's something that you must do if you are staying, regardless of weather (well, unless it's deep winter!).

Other things to note
The Eyrie is high in the Otway ranges, ~300m above sea level (but still only a 5 min drive from the beach). You will experience the most amazing views, but there is a price to pay - the weather is changeable - sometimes we are above the clouds!
So make sure you bring some warm clothes...or alternatively just stay indoors and enjoy the slow combustion heater whilst watching the weather roll in.

Neighbourhood highlights

The Great Ocean Road on the southern coast of Victoria is one of the most beautiful parts of Australia...and Apollo Bay is the perfect place to experience it. A natural protected bay with gorgeous beaches and fantastic restaurants, never too busy, never too quiet. Surrounded by the Otways, a rainforest mountain range that extends along the coastline and provides its own unique experiences, including waterfalls, treetop walks, and incredible hiking and immersion in Australian fauna and flora. Koalas are everywhere, and the birdlife has to be seen to be believed.

The Eyrie should be the best holiday you will ever have. Been at many Airbnbs for many years in many places and definitely know the ins and outs to produce the experience I'd like to have myself.
