Inviting, detached, refurbished brick farm cottage in rural setting. Perfect place to get away from it all, and yet near enough to local amenities and the lovely Suffolk heritage coast. Ideal family accommodation, with wood burner and patio garden.

The space

The cottage is set back off the road on farmland and is ideal for family or friends looking to discover the area. It is also suitable accommodation for those attending local weddings or events. People feel very at home in it straight away. It will comfortably fit six people with one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and two single bedrooms. There is a shower room and loo upstairs and a bathroom and loo downstairs.

Guest access

The entrance drive is shared with the adjacent farm house and it is important that the main gate is shut at all times.

Interaction with guests

There is a big farm house on the property lived in by family, so there is usually someone near to hand. You will be given keys and welcomed in by a family member.

Other things to note

There are dogs, small ponies and cats in the adjacent farm house, but they do not come onto the cottage premises. Arrival time can sometimes be before 4pm subject to arrangement.

Guests are expected to treat the property in the same way as they would the home of a friend i.e. with respect and consideration. Smoking is not allowed in the house, but I have no problem with smoking on the patio, as long as ash trays are used. Pets are only allowed in exceptional circumstances.

We absolutely loved our stay here in Benhall! Lovely spacious cottage, with a nice homely feel. Such a beautiful surprise that you can see horses wandering in the field behind the cottage from the bedrooms, kitchen, dining and living rooms. A real home away from home on a nice farm property- great if you and your family love animals! Everything you need here and in a great position to drive around beautiful Suffolk. Great for a family or group of friends looking for a country escape.

I have tried unsuccessfully several times to leave a reference, but unfortunately to no avail - so here goes again. Adam and his colleagues were delightful, model guests! We were only sorry that all tickets were sold out for their performance at Snape. We would be very happy indeed to have them back at any time. The house was left beautifully clean and tidy.

It is a rare find for people who like secluded places among the animals and old barns. The house is close to Saxmundham ( a 30 min walk) and a bus ride from Saxmundham to Aldeburgh takes 35 min. The host, Mrs Read, is a very special lady. We could buy eggs from her farm. The house is beautifully decorated with a wood-burning stove and a garden, were it is possible to eat. Old dogs wander slowly round the farm. Tiny kittens watch visitors with shining pinhead eyes, and a horse grazes with her foal at her side. No dog barks. Here is a place of harmony and welcome.

Thank you Kersti. I am so pleased you appreciated the cottage and surroundings. You are welcome back any time!

Lovely cottage in a secluded place but only a short drive to shops and beautiful Aldeburgh. The children loved the animals on the farm and Mrs Read who lives next door made our stay special.

Response from Gizelle:
Thank you Nish, I will let Mrs Read know. I hope you have a lovely summer..

I am a writer with two teenage children and am now based in the French horse racing world of Chantilly, just north of Paris. However I spent much of my younger life between my home in Suffolk and London. I love travelling, animals, creativity of all sorts, originality and people - for all their faults! I am also President of the local bilingual school in Chantilly. The cottage is managed by a close family member and we visit frequently.
