Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat is a nature lovers paradise where a cool tropical climate is enhanced by the private pole and timber accommodation with views to spectacular rainforest and mountain scenery. Guests can explore the 9kms of walking trails from their doorstep to pristine rainforest creeks where platypus reside. Discover a charming waterfall, abundant wildlife such as the endangered Cassowary, the smallest kangaroo in the world and over 160 bird species. We are just 90mins from Cairns.

The space
Your family will love our 2 bedroom treehouses, which are nestled amongst tropical rainforest in total privacy, 100m from any other guest accommodation and with views out over the Wooroonooran National Park. Watch sunrise while listening to the birds on your spacious balcony, cosy up next to the wood stove with a good book or explore the rainforest and see wildlife on our 9kms of walking trails.

Your Two Bedroom Treehouse is spread over 2 levels, with the main bedroom, living, dining, kitchen and bathroom downstairs and a second bedroom on the mezzanine level.

Included in your stay is a breakfast hamper with enough provisions for the first morning of your stay. Your treehouse also comes with full kitchen facilities, including an outdoor BBQ, 4 pot gas cooktop, convection microwave oven (will cook a small roast), medium size fridge, all crockery, cutlery, pots & pans, and condiments (salt/pepper/oil). So if you wish to prepare your own meals, shop before you arrive so that you can enjoy relaxing in the rainforest. Malanda (15 minutes drive) and Yungaburra (20 minutes drive) both have good supermarkets. Alcohol can be purchased at bottle shops in both townships.

Please be aware that due to our current policies and government restrictions around COVID-19, the exact treehouse you book may not be available due to extensive cleaning procedures between guests. We are also providing a contactless check in and check out service which we will explain to you once we receive your booking. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to ask us.

Where you’ll be

Butchers Creek, Queensland, Australia

We are situated on the coastal mountain ranges of the Cairns Highlands/Atherton Tablelands, adjoining the World Heritage Wooroonooran National Park. The cool, elevated green and brown mountains behind Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef are part rainforest, part outback, and 100% Australia. The hospitality of the locals, the dramatic beauty of the ever-changing landscape, the captivating wildlife and the spirit of this place will stay in your heart long after you return home.

There is so much to see and do here, so plan to spend one or two weeks discovering all there is to explore in these fascinating tropical plateaux. The Cairns Highlands covers an area extending from the villages of Julatten and Kuranda in the north, to the outback town of Chillagoe in the west and south to Ravenshoe and Mt Garnet. It is made up of the Evelyn, Hann and Atherton Tablelands, hence its local name of the Tablelands.

We are the owners of a small rainforest retreat on the Atherton Tablelands called Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat. We have been living on the property since 1998 when we built the first treehouse and now have 12 treehouses available for guests to come and stay. We love welcoming our guests from all over the world to share our little piece of paradise hidden in the highland rainforests of tropical north Queensland.
