Lovely location and very therapeutic listening to the sounds of the ocean at night. Perfect location for gold enthusiasts as the Rarangi Golf Course is directly across the road.

Perfect for a getaway (yet only a 15 minute drive to Blenheim), it's quiet, charming (if a tad basic) and kitchen area is surprisingly well-equipped. The main thing is the sea. A 20 second stroll from the door, the Pacific is there, crashing or gently breaking into Cloudy Bay as the mood takes it. I'll never forget the sunrises or the sound of the sea, both of which can be experienced from the bed! The Marlborough wineries aren't bad either...

Beautiful location on the beach - not a soul around. Lovely and spacious with a kitchen and living room and upstairs a bathroom and bedroom with seating area and deck. Such a great place - would love to live there! Really responsive with booking contact and flexible on key pick and drop off. Recommend highly!

We had a fantastic experience staying at John's place. Having traveled for several weeks we found it to be a very special spot indeed which takes you away from everyday life and feels like a homely retreat but is also close enough to the vineyards and nice beaches to also be a great base for exploring Marlborough. John couldn't have been a better host. So laid back but generous with advice and fresh produce. I would suggest at least three nights, we could easily have stayed longer.

Just a wonderful discovery. Easy to find in a beautiful, quiet location. Well equipped and with John's practical, artistic work much in evidence The perfect place to unwind. We were given a lovely welcome by Lee who had plenty of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We fell in love with the place and decided to stay in so we could enjoy the calming sound of the waves without missing an extra second! We slept very well and woke up to the amazing view. We could hardly bear to leave.

If you have the good fortune to stay at John's Driftwood Beach pad, you will be forever changed. It is as unique and charming and artistic as John himself, magically situated right on the beach of black/gray sand and rocks, with giant driftwood sculptures built by John and friends, beautiful private outdoor spaces upstairs and down, friendly neighbors, and breathtaking sunrises. Reggae music softly lifts from the patio, crashing waves lull you to sleep in a huge bedroom, a secret spot in the garden underneath a canopy of green invites you to sip coffee or a glass of wine looking out at the waves, John's effusive garden offers veggie beauties for dinner (and/or fresh kale and tomatoes with your eggs!). Make sure you stay at least 2 nights or you will forever regret it. Minutes from a world of vineyards, great walks/hiking, and the breathtaking Sounds. Such a delight to meet John and his sons and friend Lee who helped with our booking and planning. All communication was excellent. Thank you, Lee, for also inspiring us with your personal story of following your dream, and recommending Highfield winery -- breathtaking views, dining patio, delightful wine, the quintessential winery. John was pure joy. (Loved sharing rainbows with him.) We dream of returning to Driftwood to be hypnotized by its magic all over again...we will return!

When you like secluded and a warm ambiance don't look any further. We felt welcoming. They made our stay special with little personal touches; fruit basket, little flowers and even their private herb & vegetable garden we could make our own. John is a true artist with eye for life. Great to chat with and respected our privacy at the same time. In need of guidelines what to do in the area. Ask. They have ideas for everyones liking. 20 min. away from Blenheim town if you need action plus 25min to the airport. Home away from home.

Hi I'm John,
I'm originally from Melbourne, AUS, I have two wonderful Kiwi boys, Francesco(17) and Lukas(15).
We moved to Rarangi 16 years ago for the beautiful environment. We lived in the now B&B before renovating our house.
We love to give people the opportunity to stay in what is essentially a separate accommodation space with a great view over Cloudy Bay, Cook Straight, over to the North Island and out to the wild Pacific Ocean.
We find people like the privacy of the space yet interact with us as hosts as they would like.
We love meeting new people and seeing people coming back again with their stories of life.
We look forward to meeting you too!
