Only 8 min from Aveiro & 19 min from the Atlantic Ocean driving. Grandpa had built this house with Azulejos–traditional ceramics. I left Canada to invest my energy in transforming this family land into a space for health, connections & slow living.
Rooms are luminous & spacious with a traditional flair. When walking in our garden you can always run into our chickens! Expect fresh eggs & cheese, sourdough & corn breads, olives, jams, nut butters, veggies, and seasonal fruits in morning and Café!

The space
When I learned to slow down in this new lifestyle, I gained more clarity, started to appreciate and have time to cultivate gratefulness. I try to live respecting my own natural rhythm. My senses feel more awaken, and through this project deeper connections rise with others, also with nature and animals. Most importantly which makes me feel fulfilled is that I found a way to honor my ancestors and give life to their creations through my own vision and dream.

So expect to be part of this project while you stay as your presence only will bring life to the house. We have music instruments at disposal. from time to time jamminy sessions can happen with our guests. You can always reserve a meditation and yoga class, even a health coaching session or a plant based cooking class with Sandy, your host.
If you plan a longer stay, we can customize a plan for your needs. We have helped guests with their diets and had great success after a couple of weeks of cooking together and just sharing during health circles talks.

The intention we have is to guide you through your cultural visits of our city or nearby cities as you find time to also slow down and revitalize yourself. We offer alkaline water and we serve garden-to-table organic meals. What we cook for ourselves we share with our guests at modest rates.

We share access to the entire home.

Location

Aveiro, Portugal

Quinta do Picado, our village is very quiet, located just 7min driving distance from the city center of Aveiro. Only when there is a wedding or celebration in the village you might hear some music and some fireworks at night. It is a very safe village, and the neighbours will probably want to chat with you if they see you walking around. Just say: Bom dia!

There are convinience stores, pharmacy and bakeries in the village. The closest is a café and restaurant called Pinto about 7 min walking distance which serves homemade meals with meat or fish depending on the dish of the day.

I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and brought up in a Portuguese family. I always dreamed of having a slow living european lifestyle. My dear grandfather built this house with Azulejos – traditional ceramics of our region – with the intentions to have a space to gather family. The land used to belong to his parents, our ancestors. After he passed away due to illness, I decided to invest my energy on transforming this family house into a space for health, connections and slow living. I moved from Canada to Portugal, left my luxurious career and appartment because I felt I wanted to keep serving others but with what I felt was more meaningful to me: health and wellbeing. The love I felt for my grandpa and the passion I had developped for all topics related to healing is what moved me and what gave life to this project: SwaraSlowLiving. Swara means rythm. because I believe magic happens when we slow down. You have the option to stay just because you are looking for a place in Portugal to feel at home, and maybe just a space where you can just be in peace. Who knows maybe your just like me and you just want to enjoy picking your orange from the tree in the morning. If your curious you can also in the morning try a gentle yoga or meditation class, or try what our healthy cuisine - flavoured with our garden fresh herbs or our Indian spices- taste like. I am a world traveler for over a decade and I tend to bring lots of spices and inspirations in our home. I came from a 5 star hotel business to now a certified Therapy and Hatha Yoga teacher. I am also certified Integrative Nutrition Heath Coach. I am looking forward to greet you and to be your guide during your stay and to share about our culture! i also am looking forward to know more about your own story!
