Mheall Cottage is a cottage home space optimised for families of 3-4ppl visiting the historic Kilmartin Glen area for a few nights.
The 4 things my guests say they like most staying here - it's clean, comfortable, cosy and in a premium location!
Mheall is one of the few 'owner-occupier' listings left in Scotland - it's not listed anywhere else as it's my home, albeit one that affords you your own self-contained half/suite with private rooms, kitchenette & entrance to come and go as you please.
The space
The guest area of my cottage is essentially half the property which forms a sort of 'suite' of rooms with your own private entrance.
The entire space is comprised of: master bedroom with en-suite bathroom+shower, twin bedroom with separate WC+handbasin, kitchenette/day room, hallway and a porch/entrance for coats & boots etc.
This unique space is optimal for a family of 3-4ppl, but it can work for a group of the same number with a little flexibility on your part - see below. If you are only 2ppl (and/or traveling with a very young child) and only require the use of the double room (i.e. not the twin room), I will reduce the asking price by 10%.
MASTER BEDROOM: A light, spacious double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a great shower, a UK king-size bed and beautiful views across farmland and peatlands towards the sea.
TWIN ROOM: A cosy twin room with two single beds and its own separate WC/hand-basin. PLEASE NOTE: 1) the shower for occupants of this room is in the double room en-suite bathroom, 2) one of the beds is an 'Amazon Basics' folding-bed frame with the same comfortable mattress as the other bed, but it may not be suitable for a very large/tall/heavy adult!
KITCHENETTE/DAY ROOM: The kitchenette is equipped with fridge, dishwasher, sink, microwave, one-ring induction hob, toaster & kettle. Basic cooking/serving utensils are provided. This is not a fully-equipped kitchen (i.e. no conventional oven, grill or frying pans) so if you are wanting to cook 3-course cordon-bleu meals every night it's not going to be sufficient, but for preparing your own breakfast/snacks, keeping things in the fridge (which has an icebox), microwaving and/or boiling up a pan of pasta/rice for the kids it's going to be ideal.
In this space there is also ample room to sit and relax at the table, and there are also shelves full of maps, books and information to help you plan your stay in the area.
All rooms are equipped with USB charging sockets.
PRIVATE ENTRANCE/PORCH SPACE: your own private front-door access plus a porch space to hang coats and leave walking boots etc
PARKING: Ample off-street parking nest to the cottage

If you are looking for a comfortable, self-contained and unique place to stay in the home of someone local who knows the area very well you are on the right page. The reviews of Mheall Cottage from previous guests all tell the same story - a story I hope you will add to yourself once you have visited.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting you!
James

Other things to note
In the kitchenette you will find already provided for you: tea, coffee and basics like sugar, salt & pepper, dishwasher tabs etc, so no need to travel with those.
There are several great local options for evening meals/lunches etc - I will point you in the direction of my top suggestions (or you can check them out in my online 'Guidebook'); most places close their kitchens at around 20:30 so plan to eat out early in Argyll! Alternatively, by all means bring your own light food and eat in by making use of the facilities in the kitchenette.
Cyclists welcome! I am located right on National Cycle Route 78 (Campbeltown to Inverness). Mid-Argyll is a popular cycling area in itself and there are lots of good routes to explore around here. I have a lockable shed for you to store your bikes in overnight and some basic bike tools etc should you need them.
Mheall Cottage is not a 100% guaranteed nut-free establishment, just in case you have this type of severe allergy.
Please understand that Mheall Cottage is surrounded by moorland, fields, farmland and livestock, carefully managed by the Poltalloch Estate in the best traditions of Scottish Highland farming; this means in the spring you might see lambs being born right next to the house, and/or sheep-dogs working the flock, but in the summer they might be being driven past your window at 7am on their way to market. It might mean you hear things that go bump in the night such as deer or foxes foraging around outside the door. A bird or a bat might get into the house through an open window. We might have a power-cut. Tractors and farm vehicles pass by from time to time. Game hunting takes place in the area. If any of these aspects of everyday country life disturb or upset you, you might be better off seeking accommodation in the town.
My super-friendly retriever dog called 'Isla' also lives on the premises. Obviously she isn't allowed in your private half of the cottage and won't disturb you but she loves meeting new people if you're up for it!
I always appreciate hearing a couple of introductory lines from you as to who you are and what brings you to this wonderful area of Scotland.
Thanks!
James
PS There's a growing global energy crisis and a war in Europe so as of 2022 I'm no longer ironing bed linen. I've no doubt there are other establishments in the area that will continue to do so, if that is important to you.

NOTE FOR COMPANY BOOKINGS Obviously Mheall Cottage is mostly set-up for holiday-makers, but I have on occasion been able to provide beds for contract workers in the area. A reminder that I can only do this if your company booking is made by an accredited Air B&B business account (indicated by a verified work email address). Please make sure your staff are aware of the facilities here before booking as if they are expecting Premier Inn style mod-cons (Cable TV, handy take-away restaurants or full self-catering) they might not feel it meets their needs. The driveway can accommodate a 3.5 ton box van but larger than that and you'll need to arrange alternative parking elsewhere.
