Francesca's group were absolutely perfect guests, and left the chalet perfectly clean and very tidy, with all the beds stripped and linen piled up for easy collection for laundering.
It is just a shame in this one instance, and somewhat out of my control, that the Christmas guests who had left the Chalet that morning at 6.00 a.m. left it in such an absolutely disgusting and appalling state. So much so that I considered it required another total spring clean (just a week after it had undergone a 2 day intensive spring clean). Rather than just skimming over the filth, burnt on food deposits left on pans, frozen scarlet fruit juice staining all over the freezer floor, fridge, floor and chopping board, drawers full of crumbs and dried on spilt food deposits, etc, I thought it important to thoroughly clean every area of the Chalet, which normally takes no more than 4 hours maximum, but instead that day took 10 hours. I take great pride in the fact that the Chalet is always cleaned to perfection, and presented to guests to the standard my mother would have expected (and believe me there is no higher standard!). My mother taught me that you always leave somewhere you stay as clean as, or cleaner than as you found it when you arrived. Sadly that was not the case with those Christmas week guests.
Hopefully this was a one off incident. I have written to the Christmas guests expressing my utter disappointment at how they left the chalet. I have not yet received a response, nor any kind of apology, nor offer of compensation for the extra 5 hours of cleaning that was required, and the 3 hour wait Francesca and friends had before their bedrooms were fully serviced with fresh bed linen and towels.
I am so glad that Francesca and her friends had a wonderful time staying at Chez Helene and hope to see them stay again in the near future..they are all very welcome to return.
