‘Every neighbourhood might deserve a place like Napier Quarter, but few are lucky enough to boast the likes of this back-street bluestone that makes Fitzroy feel like Melbourne's sixth arrondissement. The recent arrival of chef Eileen Horsnell has pushed this stayer to new heights of cult favouritism among the crowds grabbing a kerbside table on pretty Napier Street or a bentwood chair in the salon-like dining room, all thanks to a menu drenched in comfort and oozing style.' The space
Napier Quarter is a neighbourhood wine bar & guesthouse nestled on a backstreet corner in Melbourne’s oldest suburb, Fitzroy. We have a focus on and commitment to quality, celebrating community and championing the artisan.

Enjoy a late-night digestif overlooking beautiful tree-lined Napier Street, whilst the sounds of the bar bustle below.

Escape to the bedroom for a quiet reprieve and wrap yourself in handmade linen.

The simple bathroom with a combined toilet & shower offers Japanese cotton towels and Aesop products to enhance your cleansing rituals.

A full kitchen caters for the gourmand guest. Local market and deli tours can be prearranged with one of us to help stock up your larder for those wanting to cook for themselves.

House made, basic breakfast provisions are offered every morning as well as organic tea and French press coffee.

Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks with us in the wine bar, or order a little 'room service' from our bar menu and wine list.

Our lovely housekeeper softly and swiftly services daily between 12 noon & 1 pm.

When you stay with us at Napier Quarter we hope you'll feel part of our family. It is important to note that whilst our guesthouse offers introspection, the bar is a hubbub of staff and chefs busy about their day. The courtyard from the ground level, although offering lovely vignettes, also operates as a busy thoroughfare to our stores and utility rooms.

'The guesthouse is the artistically stylish Melbourne home you wish was yours: a modest, spartan aesthetic and moody tonal colour palette; local ceramics in the kitchen; handmade linens in the restful bedroom; Japanese cotton towels and Aesop in the bathroom. Every item has been chosen thoughtfully. Styling the space was very personal, not forced, says Daniel Lewis. “I love the layers of history of the building from the bluestone foundations to the ’70s terracotta tiles. The arched dining room entrance to the ornate ceiling rose. All reminders of the previous lives and so deeply Fitzroy."'

‘Horsnell has returned to cook the food she loves best and it's turned this already excellent pocket rocket into one of Melbourne's nicest places to eat. Part of that comes down to a mighty trio all on the same page. Horsnell worked with owner Daniel Lewis at his Brisbane restaurant, Pearl, and Lewis' cousin-in-law, Simon Benjamin, sold out of Bar Lourinha to get completely on board here last year. None is fussed by grandeur, but all are obsessed by the good stuff.’

Where you’ll be

Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia

‘Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. You can feel the pace of change in this inner northern enclave — but Fitzroy retains its authentic creative edge, thanks to a great mix of bars, restaurants, cafes, studios and art galleries.’ Fitzroy's curious bars, independent retailers, traditional pubs, restaurants, cafes and live music are scattered all over the neighbourhood grid. Sample life like a local, on a wander from Brunswick Street, to Gertrude, to Smith, and Johnson streets.’ Visit Victoria
