The space
Situated in the Rainbow neighborhood along the Yuba River, our cabin is in an ideal spot for nature lovers and those seeking a quiet, relaxing stay. The popular Loch Leven hiking trail is a few minutes from the cabin. You can hike to the transcontinental railroad tracks (where trains pass by often) and beautiful mountain lakes. There are several swimming holes near the cabin to use during the summer. Donner Lake and the town of Truckee, which offers shopping, dining, and a historic downtown, are only a 20 minute drive away. During ski season, there are several ski resorts nearby, including Boreal, Sugar Bowl, Tahoe Donner, and Squaw Valley. A list of local recommendations will be provided in the cabin.

We are currently listing the cabin for late spring, summer, and fall for our guests to enjoy the hiking and swimming nearby. Because the cabin is situated at 5700 feet elevation, winter months bring a lot of snow which makes accessing the cabin difficult. If you are interested in renting the cabin during the winter, please message us.

This cabin rental is run by a family and not a service. As such, you won’t have 24 hour concierge service or the fees associated with it. Our family will work hard to provide an enjoyable guest experience.

Additional information:

Due to the open loft area, bringing small children is not recommended. We put a baby gate on the stairs and we bring our toddler all the time, but we want to be clear that small children need to be supervised and are not allowed in the loft. Be safe as the loft stairs are a bit steep and lack child proof railing.

Our Chocolate Labrador, Jasper, loves the cabin and invites other four-legged friends to visit! If you are bringing a dog there will be an additional $20 cleaning fee for your stay as our cleaner will spend significantly extra time cleaning. If you are allergic to dogs, please understand that dogs have been in the cabin and no matter how well we clean there will likely be some allergens present. There are dog beds, water and food bowls, etc.

Fun fact: The water for the cabin used to be bottled by Crystal Geyser Spring Water, so enjoy the great tasting water!

The Cabin is in the forest so bears and other animals do exist. Do not leave food or trash outside or in your car. We have a bear bin for you to put your trash. Please do not leave food out in the kitchen over night.

Please bring your own beach towels for swimming in the river.

Guest access
The entire cabin is for your use.

Other things to note
We know that these are uncertain and uneasy times, and we want to reassure you that we are taking necessary precautions to provide you with a clean cabin. We will make sure all frequently touched surfaces, including door knobs and light switches, will be sanitized, in addition to all the typical cleaning procedures. Household cleaners will be available to guests to use during their stay, as well.

We believe our cabin is the perfect place to enjoy a getaway while social distancing. Our neighborhood is small, and you can easily enjoy a walk, hike, or swim without getting close to others. You could have a great vacation while never leaving our neighborhood if you choose!

If you are comfortable going out, many businesses are open in Truckee if you want to eat or drink on their outside patio or order takeout and eat it at the cabin. Truckee has multiple grocery stores following social distancing guidelines, including a Safeway and a SaveMart. You could also take a scenic drive along Old Highway 40 (which is our street!) or along Highway 89 to Lake Tahoe.

We are in a very quiet neighborhood next to the Yuba River, Loch Leven trailhead, and the historic Rainbow Lodge. Our street is actually the Old Highway 40; you can take a scenic drive through Norden, Soda Springs, past Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, over Donner Summit, along the shores of Donner Lake, and eventually into Truckee.
