Nina is a lovely host and clearly takes pride in her home. The house is clean and has a modern fitout on the inside. My bed was super comfortable too! Nina's home is located close to the university so it's handy for residential school students. I really enjoyed my chats with Nina…

This place needs to have an overhaul of cleaning. There is dust everywhere and cat furs on everything. The ad should read if you don't mind sleeping in a Dusty room with a bed thrown together the last minute and shoved into the entrance of the house as a room and charge you more …

I've been an Airbnb host for over 5 1/2 years and in the main have attracted happy and considerate people & received many positive reviews. You are my first unreasonable tenant. The only question you asked me was whether I had reliable internet. You obviously didn't read my ad otherwise you would have realised that 2 cats live here permanently. The house did NOT require cleaning and dusting but given that you gave me one hour's notice at dinner time I though the house looked pretty good! Both bedrooms were newly vacuumed and dusted with new fresh sheets and freshly washed bath towel and expensive bedding including an electric blanket. You couldn't have possibly seen cat fur everywhere since you remained in your room for the short time you were here. You had ample opportunity not to take the room given that you are allergic to cats. I'm an asthmatic so sensitive to dust but I have no allergy to cats. The bed was not thrown together but is a properly sprung very firm and thick mattress on steel legs which was expensive and has served many guests over the past 8 years. You selected this bed over another single bed. My nightly rate is very modest and cheaper than staying in a motel: it includes use of a gorgeous new bathroom, renovated kitchen & full cooking facilities, beautifully new fridge, new washing machine, laundry, internet service with unlimited download, electricity, gas, water. Apart from this there are established lovely gardens & privacy to all rooms. I think you have a bad attitude and couldn't recommend you to other Airbnb guests.

Blankets on the bed had cat hair all over it and the room had a faint smell of cat urine. The room I was in was cramped and cold. Every time I was out for the day I noticed my things were touched and moved from where I put them in my room, in the fridge and in the bathroom. Host …

Response from Nina:
Kristi, The beauty of Airbnb's review system is that it gives guests and hosts the opportunity to provide honest feedback online. Its disappointing when 2 people simply do not get on. I'm not sure Airbnb's are where you should be staying particularly where you are sharing with a house-proud owner or have to consider other guests. Perhaps you should stay on campus in future or look for accommodation that offers you spacious bedrooms & your own bathroom. Its clear to me that neither of us was happy with each other which can sometimes happen. Unfortunately not all rooms in my 1930s cottage are spacious but the bedrooms and sun room function well for shorter stays, such as yours, and my accommodation has served many happy students over the years. I am startled by your numerous complaints! Cat hair on your bed? Given that all bedding, including mattress protector, quilts, sheets, throws and bath towels are freshly washed as soon as any guest checks out, I can only assume that one of my curious cats snuck in. Perhaps you have better eyes than I do and can spot the odd hair. If you had communicated this to me at the time of discovery I would have immediately remedied the situation. I'm scrupulous about clean bedding & towels. Perhaps you shouldn't stay in an Airbnb where cats live. My long term part time tenant (who was a former Airbnb guest) is delighted with the service I provide, how clean everything is and is happy to stay on until the end of March. He likes the house, we get on as individuals and he likes the cats. Regarding a faint smell of cat urine I can't smell anything unpleasant at all in the room you stayed in & neither can my tenant and it has been closed up all day. However I will take this on board. Perhaps its time to get the rugs dry cleaned. You arrived from Vietnam (where your living costs are cheap) to Toowoomba where the cost of utilities have tripled over the past few years. I used to provide heaters to every room but people used to leave heaters on high, then go out! Perhaps I need to raise my rates & allow people to be wasteful. You arrived inadequately dressed for cool-cold weather but declined to wear the beautifully warm dressing gown, slippers & singlets I provided for you. I was happy to lend you additional clothing such as jumpers, scarves etc but again you declined. I provided you with 3 additional blankets because I didn't want you to feel cold. However, despite there being an electric blanket on the bed you didn't even turn it on the first night of your stay, then proceeded to complain that you were cold overnight. I did everything I could to remedy your situation. You complain that I requested that you unplug the electric blanket each day. This is because some busy guests accidentally leave electric blankets on and many house fires are started by electric blankets. I never ask quest to shower at a particular time - ever. I do ask guests & also asked you, to try to shower by 9.00 pm so I can dry out the shower recess after the final shower of the day & air the bathroom before I turn in. This prevents mould from growing and has so far been very effective. There is no mould in my bathroom! You agreed to do this, but despite being home from 4.30 pm you proceeded to take long late showers as if the bathroom was exclusively yours. Other guests had to wait for you to finish using the bathroom so they could clean their teeth and go to sleep. I usually recommend that tenants use separate shelves in the fridge particularly when 3 people are here at the same time. This avoids confusion. I recall showing you a shelf but you kept putting food here & there without thinking. Again its as if you had the house to yourself and that others didn't live here. Most of my Airbnb guests over the past 6 years have been considerate and obliging and have enjoyed their stay. Some have returned and recommended me to their friends .... unfortunately not all adults will get along and sadly some aren't suited to sharing.
