The space

Spend the night at the craftsman’s courtyard in the old town of Wittenberg The double room is at the first floor of a building which was built in 1895. Up to the 1920s it was used by a blacksmith. The building was renovated with a lot of attention to historical detail and has been used for living purposes again since 2005. The back of the house is built on the old city walls. It is situated in a quiet part of town and from the window you have a beautiful view of the park. From the window facing the courtyard you also have a view of the workshop for historic musical instruments. In the workshop stringed musical instruments from the Renaissance and the Baroque period are made by skilful craftsman. On the ground floor of the building there is a small café and a coffeeroastery. If ordered in advance you can book a guided tour of the workshop, or you can have a look into the procedure of roasting coffee beans. From the courtyard you can enjoy the view of the panorama of the castle church of Wittenberg. The guestroom has been listed on the nationwide Bed&Bike register for bicyclefriendly accommodation since 2012. There is a big bicycleshed on the yard and the gate to he yard is closed over night. You can also rent a bike in the cycleshop over the road. The guestroom offers space for one to two people. An additional bed can be put up if required.

This room is very central and so you can walk to everywhere in the beautiful old city. Restaurants are very close. Breakfast and conversations are included. My bicycle was safe under cover in the courtyard.

Joerg is a lovely muso/artisan with a great sense of humour who has built an amazing place. Really appreciated him showing us his workshop and allowing us to play the replica of an ancient hurdy-gurdy (and some didgeridoos!). The stairs are in the process of being replaced so it was a bit scary walking up the scaffolding. Highly recommended.

Our stay at Joerg place was great. He was very helpful with guidance and touring advice even loaning us a bike for seeing about. His room was easy to find and spacious but private enough as required. We loved that he was ready for a chat over breakfast and any other time. Thanks Joerg

You'll struggle to find a nicer place to stay in Wittenberg. It's virtually right outside the Schloßkirche, so you couldn't be in a better spot if you're coming on a Reformation tour. The room is large with a cozy wooden floor. But the best part is the host, Joerg, who was very friendly, hospitable, and humorous. He also offers a lovely continental breakfast, and played us some music from the instruments in his workshop. Best Airbnb experience we've had thus far.

Joerg is offer us a delicious breakfast, fresh coffee and nice talks. Finn was also a gentleman. Overall an excelent experience.

Joerg is a very entertaining host who serves an excellent breakfast. We were surprised to have to climb scaffolding to get to our rooms, but grateful that we arrived late and it was dark so we didn't look down! We were more surprised to learn we would be sharing our bathroom with other guests. At our age, we don't want to do that. We LOVED the location and the view of the castle church. Wow! We enjoyed our stay, even with all the surprises,...

Response from Joerg:
Hello Lee, you wrote quite a lot about the adventure climbing up into my flat. Well I didn't expect to have to wait for more than half a year to get the staircase build by the metalworker. I gave him the order to build it in April this year. Now we got the end of October and he still hasn't finished it. Of course you are not the only person complaining about the scaffolding. Sorry for the inconvenience. A shared bathroom is quite normal. It is not a hotel and you didn't rent the whole flat for yourself. I think if you would come back in the next couple of years, it will be much more relaxing. This year was very full with bookings and I had to many people staying here. Sorry I didn't kept it cleaner. Please remember the good things when you think back of your time in Wittenberg. All the best to you and Tom

Ich baue historische Saiteninstrumente, mache selber Musik, gehe Klettern und Bergsteigen, lerne gerne fremde Menschen kennen und liebe gute Geschichten.
I would see myself as a friendly, open minded and curious person. I travelled a lot and like to meet new people from all over the world. I speak good German and Englisch, some Spanish and very little French.
I'm a musical instrument maker and in my free time I go rockclimbing and mountaineering. I like to be out in the nature and even in winter I sleep in my tent, but not to often. I love good storytelling.
