Smugglers Cottage is a fabulous coastal house in an exceptional location. It sits in Fore Street Ilfracombe North Devon only paces from the beautiful working harbour, Damien Hirst’s statue 'Verity' and the Michelin star restaurant The Olive Room on the same street. Smugglers is the perfect base for a UK seaside holiday set in the Victorian resort of Ilfracombe and only a 10 minute drive to the fabulous surfing beach at Woolacombe - and also not far from Croyde and Saunton.

The space
In the other direction Exmoor is on the doorstep, with all the beautiful coastline it boasts. In Ilfracombe you are only a 10 minute walk from The Tunnels Beaches, a great 'day out' attraction as well as the number one wedding location in the area. There are numerous great places to eat and drink in Ilfracombe and lots of lovely walks - with the seafront and harbour only a short stroll away, as well as the stunning Capstone Hill which you can see from the rear of the house along with views of the Bristol Channel. At the harbour you can take boat trips to watch wildlife including seals as well as boats operating sea fishing trips. And if you don't catch anything, fresh fish can be purchased at the shop on the harbour supplied by its own trawlers. The harbour also offers day trips to Lundy Island, a beautiful nature reserve owned by the National Trust, with dramatic scenery and wildlife. Smugglers is laid out over 5 floors and has been decorated in keeping with the age of the property but with a modern twist, so it feels like a period property but with the comfort factored in! From the front door you enter straight into the lounge with 3 large sofas and a TV, fireplace (no fire) and a view over the rear garden towards Capstone. From here the hallway leads either down one flight to the kitchen, diner/family room and out into the pretty enclosed garden or up to the other three levels of bathrooms and bedrooms. The kitchen is laid out and equipped brilliantly from the spacious worktops to the plentiful supply of cooking utensils. There is a dining table for 8 and another TV and some easy chairs. Through the French doors you enter the garden which has been thoughtfully laid out. There is a garden table and chairs for al fresco dining in this sheltered spot. One floor up from the lounge there is a cloakroom on the half landing and bedroom 1 with two single beds and views over the rear to Capstone and the Bristol Channel. Bedroom 2 is also on this floor and consists of a super king bed which can also be two singles if preferred (please advise when booking which set up you prefer) It’s a lovely light and spacious room and there is also a washbasin in the corner. Window seats complete this pretty bedroom. On floor 4 there is a Jack and Jill bathroom with one door into the hallway and the other into a beautiful double bedroom which has a king size bed and an elegant chaise longue and window seats. The family bathroom on this floor is huge and has views over Capstone and the channel. There is a bath with shower over, washbasin, toilet and heated towel rail. On the top floor there is another good size family bathroom with a bath with shower over, washbasin and toilet. Next door is bedroom 4 which has 2 single beds, ceiling beams and a skylight window. The unique layout of Smugglers ensures there is plenty of space for 8 guests with room to spread out. The cottage is warm and inviting whatever the weather and makes for a fabulous place to stay anytime of the year.
A few metres from the cottage there is a large car park (Ropery Road Car Park) for which we provide up to 2 permits. You can drive right up to the front door to unload. See photos for car park image. Sorry but towels are NOT provided.

Set in the street leading to Ilfracombe harbour Smugglers is well placed for great restaurants, casual dining, tapas, pubs and interesting independent shops. Check out Blacksands Bistro if you get a chance, a persona favourite along with Giovannis, the excellent Italian restaurant just metres away.
North Devon has one of the most stunning coastlines and Ilfracombe stands on the Bristol Channel side with lots of lovely little coves and bays from Hele to Tunnels Beaches. The architecture of Ilfracombe is predominately Victorian and the general feel of the resort is old school seaside town. The harbour is very popular and Fore Street runs from the High Street to the harbour and is full of lovely independent shops, great eateries and welcoming pubs. The Tunnels Beaches is a short stroll away and the seafront Promenade is even closer where you will find restaurants and cafes as well as the usual holiday style shops, crazy golf and the famous Landmark Theatre. A short drive away is Woolacombe with its 3 miles of golden sands and surf.
