The Summit Cabin was built as a high altitude farm and nature retreat. While completely “Off the Grid” it is now accessible by a moderate hike of about 7 minutes from the base camp, were up to two “all wheel drive cars” can be parked in privacy and safety.
The lower main room has a futon, a living/dining/kitchen area with freezer/refrigerator and a bathroom with shower, sink and composting toilet. 12V DC and limited 110V AC is available.
Outside is a large grill, a fire pit and camp area.

The space
The entire space is available to select nature and outdoor enthusiasts.
Again to point out this space is totally off the grid. While it has everything to be comfortable it is on a rugged mountain out in the woods.

Where you’ll be

Barnardsville, North Carolina, United States

Of course the main attraction is the Pisgah National Forest, you will be in the midst of it. Close by are very local breakfast and lunch places (upon request my Sawmill can provide a European cooked meal as well), artist gallery’s and zip lines.
Mount Mitchell the highest point on the East Coast is not even an hour away. Trout fishing is possible in Mineral Creek which runs on the property, it’s rugged so a little down stream might be easier. And then there is always Asheville with the Biltmore, the brewery’s and many first class restaurants

I started traveling around the world in my early 20ties, building textile plants for major European machinery manufacturers. In my early 30s, I found my real home in beautiful North Carolina, were I have stayed and lived ever since. Traveling thought me the importance of a quality and welcoming “temporary environment”. I lived in the most beautiful places around the world but it’s the places with friendliness, care and unique character I loved the most. One of the best travel experiences I have had was in Argentina in the late 1980s; the Pampas out in the middle of nowhere - mostly monotone accordion music - a square room with a bed, a small window and a cross beside it - all extremely clean - the hosts somewhat reserved but very friendly. On my last Friday afternoon I was told “go down the country road 1/2 mile and you will come to a farm; they will feed you.” I got there at 5:00 that evening and left at 2:00AM on Saturday morning! Absolutely one of the best stays with arguably one the best meals I ever had!

During your stay

I love to keep in touch with my guests at their pace. My routine is to extend my welcome at the time of check in, show the main features of the property and take them on an extended tour at the guests leisure. My free range chickens are good layers so once in a while a few of the special eggs can be shared as well
A good Swiss meal can be provided upon request, especially Fondue, Raclette and if in season a venison treat.
Friday afternoon there is many times an “Aperitif Gathering” at the Sawmill, guests are always welcome
