Enjoy the very best that Sydney has to offer from this waterfront space in Potts Point featuring staggering harbour views, high ceilings, designer furnishings and immediate access to a world-class dining and entertainment scene.

The space has been curated by an expert designer with input from a leading Australian artist. But the real draw here is the outlook, which showcases the Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Royal Botanical Gardens, St Mary's Cathedral and Woolloomooloo Wharf.

The space
Situated an interesting flatiron-style building of only seven apartments at the Parisienne end of Potts Point, this lovely pad is the perfect pied-a-terre for a stay in the finest part of Sydney.

High ceilings and massive, full-width windows bring the outside in and create a dramatic sense of connection with Sydney itself. Glorious all-day sun, cooling harbour breezes and million-dollar sunsets are the norm, as is the nightly tapestry of distant city lights across the water. Navy vessels occasionally dock in front of the apartment, making for a varied outlook. There's no other way to say it - this space features some of the best views you will find anywhere in the world.

Renovated in June 2020, the tonal palette is one of restraint and interest, and there are plenty of playful touches throughout. The space itself is original 1960s - though I have incorporated a variety of interesting additions and alterations.

The centrepiece of the space is the contemporary dining table in ash, designed by HAY. It's flanked by chairs by Konstantin Grcic for Magis, Kartell storage units in limited edition gold, a selection of art and design books and a beautiful minimalist bed in green steel. Crowning the table is a rare and valuable vintage Tacchia lamp by Archille Castiglioni for Flos.

The bed, which doubles as a fabulous lounge, is topped with an absolute best-quality mattress, pure linen sheets and a luxurious quantity of pure mohair blankets and cushions.

The original kitchen is simple, cute and useful. There's an induction cooktop (which heats to commercial-use levels), a brand new bar fridge and microwave (both in black glass) and quality cookware and utensils including a Staub cocotte. For cooks, I supply an epic local olive oil, Maldon sea salt and a well-maintained spice collection. For coffee-lovers, I supply single-origin beans, a Delter press and a ceramic burr grinder. But with so many incredible spots at your doorstep (plenty of them inexpensive), it's surprising to see guests using much of what I've listed above.

The bathroom, again original, is a clean and functional space that's a product of the 60s. Creatives will love the burnt-orange tiling, while non-creatives will love the fact that I supply Sheridan towels (or better), quality soaps and candles.

In fact, there are loads of lovely little touches throughout the space - all of which help to make it truly special. The entry hallway is dominated by a unique rug by subversive artist Maurizio Cattelan, itself flanked by an installation of wall-mounted candle holders by MENU that dazzle at night and double as garment hooks. There are more candle holders in the main room, this time by Tom Dixon and HAY, as well as some beautiful plants. I keep fresh flowers on the dining table - they're just next to the small but excellent Bang & Olufsen sound system. There's a few interesting and valuable design pieces and artworks in the space, not to mention that knockout rug.

At the end of the day however, what you're really getting with this space is its million-dollar views. Make no mistake, this is a small original 1960s studio, albeit one with myriad contemporary designer furnishings and inclusions procured at significant expense. But it's the waterfront views that are absolutely priceless, and definitely unique to listings at any price-level - particularly this one.

If you are looking for a larger home that is the epitome of luxury, I have you covered - feel free to check out my other two places nearby: they are extremely indulgent and either will fit the bill. If you're after something a bit more informal, private and inexpensive - and with an absolutely astonishing outlook - this place is by far the best of the lot.

“Largely occupied by Sydney’s well heeled (and well fed), Potts Point is something of an inner city oasis with a Parisian twist. With many of Sydney’s trademark attributes, such as spectacular harbour views and leafy streets, this historic neighbourhood, just east of the city centre, is also characterised by stunning Art Deco architecture, a buzzing cafe culture and designer lapdogs out for their daily stroll. Stretching from vibrant Darlinghurst and lively Kings Cross to the south, alongside photogenic Woolloomooloo Wharf, up to Garden Island to the north, Potts Point is for those who enjoy the finer things in life.”

- Alissa Jenkins (australia.com)

The space is surrounded by mansions, and is situated just off Wylde St, one of Sydney’s most picturesque streets. There are world-class restaurants and bars nearby, as well as a top-notch greengrocer, an artisan butcher and an excellent bakery (which has just opened in New York, to queues down the street). There is a cafe with free wifi just up the street, and there is an organic farmers market on Saturdays and Sundays.

Several picturesque waterfront parks are within a five minute walk (one is right outside). The CBD is a stunning twenty minute harbourside stroll, as is the Opera House and Circular Quay. Woolloomooloo’s finger wharf, the Royal Botanical Gardens, AGNSW and the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool (Australia’s most spectacular public swimming pool) are all along the way.

Darling Harbour is ten minutes by Uber, Bondi Beach is twenty minutes. Manly Beach, Watson's Bay and Taronga Zoo are accessible from nearby Circular Quay via a spectacular half-hour ferry trip across Sydney Harbour. If you’re looking to go further afield, there are train stations within very easy walking distance.

Hi! I’m a lawyer residing mainly in Sydney. I previously ran a successful art and fashion magazine, and I have a Masters in design, which I completed in Florence, Italy. I’ve worked with some of the world’s leading designers and architects - some of that former life has rubbed off onto my listings. In my downtime I write and perform music. Please free to contact me if there’s anything I can do to assist :)
