Lovingly restored one bedroom apartment. Heart pine floors, plaster walls and original windows give apartment loads of charm. Deck looks over garden with fruit trees, flowers, butterflies and three elderly chickens. Located on quiet street. Short walk to vibrant, historic Downtown Melbourne. We're also close to Florida Tech and Holmes Regional Medical Center.

The space
Our home was built in 1926 and has a comfortable, old Florida feel. It was built as a triplex with two upstairs apartments. We are only the third owners to live downstairs, but there have been many renters in the apartments. According to one sensitive tenant, a friendly ghost named Sally still visits upstairs.

There have been many house projects in the 24 years we've lived here. Electric and plumbing are new, and air conditioning and heat have been added. We've removed past "improvements" like panelling, wall-to-wall shag carpeting and aluminum siding but have kept as much of what is original as possible.

Guest access
Guests have access to a shared laundry room with washer, dryer, iron and ironing board. No quarters needed. The back deck is shared with a second upstairs apartment.

Other things to note
There is a second upstairs apartment that is also rented out through Airbnb. The back doors from both apartments lead to a common deck with tables, chairs and a nice view of the garden below. Say hello to your neighbors. They’re very nice.

We love the mixed-up nature of Melbourne's Old Downtown. There are homes and shops, new and old construction, beautiful nature next to a vibrant downtown. We also like being near everything - the beach, the Indian River, stores, library, restaurants, Florida Tech, Holmes Regional Medical Center, parks are all a walk or bike-ride away. If there is anything in particular you would like to do or see while here, please ask.

My family had a great experience staying in Airbnb apartments while traveling so we converted our two upstairs apartments, which had previously been rented out long-term, into Airbnb apartments. It has worked out well, so we added a cottage, also on our property, that was built several years ago for an older parent. We really enjoy meeting guests and introducing them to our part of the world. We have lived downstairs for 25 years and have acquired lots of local knowledge that we are happy to share. We love the outdoors - gardening, sailing, the beach and anywhere with great natural beauty. I run a non-profit called BlueTube ( (Website hidden by Airbnb) that makes it easy for people to keep beaches clean and keep plastic out of the ocean. I wrote a book called Go Outside and Play: Why Kids Don't and Why They Should. There's a copy in the apartments and the cottage.
