I will start off by saying that we had a great time in the city of Cabrera. The people were very nice and the local restaurants we ate at were delicious with friendly service. I also highly recommend spending time at Playa Grande. It is a gorgeous beach with very friendly, all day beach service with chairs, food, drinks, etc. Everything is also very affordable and reasonably priced. There are also some very nice smaller, more hidden beaches in the area that are worth exploring ( Playa La Entrada, Playa Diamante, Playa Los Cocos, Playa Preciosa, Frozen Beach…) We also visited a lot of nearby cities and enjoyed our time there as well. We recommend Las Terrenas, Lake Dudu in Cabrera, Monkey Jungle, and Cabarete. In terms of restaurants in Cabrera, we enjoyed Mi Familia, Mi Jardin, Flor Café. Nothing is really within walking distance so a rental car is necessary for this vacation. For all of these reasons, I highly recommend visiting the Dominican Republic.
With that being said, I unfortunately would not recommend staying at this air bb if you are looking for a relaxing vacation with no work involved. Katarina’s house is on beautiful property and the house itself is very cute and could be very nice if it was well maintained. We encountered a lot of issues while staying there. To start, the house was not clean when we got there even after paying a cleaning fee, towels and sheets smelled of mildew, and we struggled with cockroaches, especially in the kitchen, everyday. The dishes needed to be washed before using, as did all of the linens. The house does not have screened windows so a lot of insects enter the home.
Aside from the cleanliness of the home, we did not have hot water for our entire two-week stay. We alerted Katarina and her manager and even after the manager came and realized this problem, in addition to the pool not working, nothing was done to fix either problem. The house also runs on a converter system so we were constantly losing power throughout the trip, sometimes for prolonged periods. Special attention is needed to use items such as hair dryers that draw a lot of power. There is a router for Wi-Fi in the home, but the Internet is very poor. If you have important work to get done during your stay, this Wi-Fi would not be reliable.
There were things that we enjoyed about the home, such as the surrounding community, property views, and 24 hour security. The community is gated and is very quiet. Katarina was relatively easy to contact and answered our questions in a timely manor, though, I cannot recommend this home to other users until the above things are fixed.
