Hanworth House offers the Brisbane traveller award-winning accommodation that's close to the city in a beautiful Heritage Listed property over 160 years old.
The space
Hanworth is positioned on 3100 sq m of gardens and lawns on the doorstep of Brisbane city. There is a bus stop right next door and in less than 10 mins you are in the city centre. The City Cat Ferry is across the road and only one stop away from the Brisbane centre or two stops from Queensland University of Technology, Southbank and the Museum precinct. Beautiful Mowbray Park is across the road as is the city bike path which takes you to the University of Qld, QUT, city, Southbank, West End, Teneriffe and Hamilton.
We have a mix of single and double occupancy rooms with a small number also equipped with their own ensuite. All rooms have access to the 10 shared bathrooms and are fully furnished. There are 3 large architect designed kitchens which are fully stocked with cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Live comfortably in any of the 3 shared living areas and beautiful communal courtyard, garden, and pavilion. Wi-Fi is included and available from anywhere within the property grounds while you stay.
Hanworth offers a sense of instant community as you get to meet and mix with other travellers or locals who call this their home. They will bring you an instant introduction to Brisbane and Queensland
East Brisbane is almost as close as you can get to Brisbane city. Yet Hanworth offers a peaceful and Idyllic place to stay yet be close to all amenities. Pharmacy, Post Office and convenience store are a short walk away. Enjoy inner city Brisbane living in one of the city’s most outstanding residences in a safe and secure environment.
If you are independent and travelling, working or studying , love to be surrounded by history and want comfortable, and affordable accommodation in the city, Hanworth might just be for you. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for families as almost all rooms are single occupancy.

You will have access to all the beautiful parts of Hanworth (courtyard, garden, lounge room aka ballroom, dining room, pavilion, front grassy lawn and more). There are rooms with televisions to relax in, the beautiful front garden , internal courtyard which is quiet and green or the pavilion where you can watch TV or relax. The internet is available from all parts of Hanworth. There are some beautiful cosy corners and verandah areas where you will be happy curled up with a book or magazine and a coffee (or sipping on a glass of our beautiful local wines). There is a guest coffee/tea area where you can help yourself at any time.
During your stay
Our beautiful caretakers are on site most week days and are available if guests require any assistance.
Other things to note
Hanworth mainly offers longer term accommodation but now and again we have room pop up - perfect for a traveller overnight or for a few days. Contact us to see if we can fit you in to experience this unique part of Brisbane

East Brisbane is almost as close as you can get as a residential neighbourhood close to the city. There are many local landmarks and places of historic interest along with beautiful Mowbray Park to add to the greenspace.

Lives in East Brisbane, Australia
After being in the corporate world for many years as a CEO, I took a break to develop accommodation and in 2012 took on my biggest challenge to date, the restoration of historic Hanworth House, one of Brisbane’s oldest properties which was restored in honour of my beautiful mother Romana who passed away the same year from ovarian cancer. Just weeks from opening in March 2013 a fire destroyed 80% of this magnificent house so the journey started again.
I love to share Hanworth with others - perfect for the single or couple traveller and close to the city and beautiful Brisbane. Hanworth is more than a place to stay - and hosts some of Brisbane's most bespoke events - always with a charitable purpose.
I believe that we should all do what we love. I love Hanworth and am very proud of the special place and community we have created here.
