House Rules

We are fairly flexible with house rules, but here are the biggies:

1. No smoking in the cabin.

2. Dogs are welcome with a heads up and please know that there are fleas and ticks in the woods and your pooch should have something to help avoid discomfort. Also, there are coyotes in the area, so please ensure that your pup is safe :-)

3. Please don't leave food or waste outside the cabin, it attracts wildlife, and you don't want to wake up to a bear, raccoon, opossum or other creature on the front stoop! Please take all unwanted refuse to the main house or call Bob/Donna for pickup.

4. If you have small children, please be aware that the stairs are steep and could be a concern overnight. Please bring a gate or other means to ensure a child's safety. There is also a small fish pool outdoors that could be a hazard. Safety first!

5. Please don't bring any firewood onto the property, we are happy to provide all you need during your stay :-)

6. RELAX and HAVE FUN!!!

This cabin was perfect for a weekend get away. It is very close to town, hiking trails, and waterfalls but also secluded enough to have the relaxation we were looking for. We enjoyed exploring the area as well as spending time at the cabin. We would highly recommend this home, and look forward to visiting again in the future.

This was our second stay at this cabin (several years in between trips) and it was just as we remembered. Truly an escape from the real life. The cabin is completely secluded and a short drive from town. There is an ice cream place just around the corner. We had fresh eggs and veggies waiting for us upon arrival. We turned them in to some yummy breakfasts! The kitchen is fully stocked and there are plenty of towels for your stay. They offer suggestions on things to do and places to eat. There was enough wood for us to have a fire every night. If you are looking for a peaceful place to relax and escape reality, this is the place for you! We had such a wonderful stay. We shall return!

What a lovely space! If only every vacation could be this easy! Danielle's cabin is small, private and tucked off the main road. It has everything you need- well stocked kitchen, extra toiletries, firewood, etc. The end of summer tomatoes and fresh eggs made for a fantastic breakfast. We will be back!

The cabin was exactly as pictured and described in the listing, and was very clean! We really liked the layout and construction of the cabin itself, and it felt very secluded. There is a gas stove and microwave for indoor cooking, and then outdoors there is a fire pit and propane grill. We also appreciated how the roof stretched out over the windows, because we could open them and let the rainy breezes through the house without anything getting wet. The hosts were very kind and friendly, too, and happy to share their knowledge of lesser-known attractions in the area. The fresh eggs were delicious! The cabin's location is great-- only a few minutes' drive from Watkins Glen, Havana Glen State Park (where you can swim under the waterfalls), Excelsior Glen, and several other waterfalls, parks, and trails. If you're looking to drive a bit further, Rochester is about an hour and a half away and Ithaca is about half an hour. All in all, we had a blast and hope to come back one day! :)

Great location and private. All amenities are provided. Seriously they even left a new tooth brush and bug spray. The eggs were nice. If you want to ride your bike while here, I will warn you that the whole area is a on a hill. Fun going down, steep going up. We ended up driving.

My family and I built Springs Retreat as my first home and I moved into the cabin during the early Spring of 2002. I enjoyed the cabin as my home for several years, until it became too small to meet the needs and I moved to a more traditional home. I loved the years I spent at the cabin and my hope is always to share the joy of simplicity and solitude with guests. The beauty of the cabin is that you can feel a 'million miles from nowhere', while being 3 miles from the nearest town and able to enjoy the great food and activities offered in both Watkins Glen and Montour Falls. On the drive past the main house to the cabin, you can pick your own veggies in season and even pick up some fresh eggs from the chickens!
