We are really happy here and consider ourselves fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. The village is very small but the residents are very friendly.

The space

Maison de Laura is a traditional long farmhouse built in 1876 and is south facing. The barn was once used to store and make wine but has since been converted into a gîte The gîte is 80 sq mts over two floors. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with built in wardrobe and views to the swimming pool. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a built in wardrobe. The luxury bathroom has a large walk in shower room, heated towel rail and fresh towels are supplied. Downstairs there is a lounge/dining area with wood burning stove plus a free supply of logs, table and chairs, two sofas and English or French satellite TV and DVD player. The fitted kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, dish washer, microwave, full size cooker, ceramic hob and good size fridge with freezer. Outside the gîte there is a private terraced area with table, chairs and a barbeque area. There is a good sized garden and a south facing swimming pool open from end of May until October.

Maison de Laura is situated in a valley surrounded by vineyards in the village of Salsigne 20 minutes north of Carcassonne in the foothills of the Montagne Noir. The village has a local shop selling most items including fresh bread and croissants. There is also a post office and a wine cave. The area is steeped in history and there are many places to see and visit. From Maison de Laura you are within walking distance of the Cathar Castles of Lastours. A short drive away are the Grotto de Limousis and the amazing underground safari of the Gouffre Geant de Cabrespine (a gorge inside a mountain deep enough to hold the Eiffel Tower), The Cascade de Cupservies (the longest drop waterfall in Europe), not to mention - wonderful vineyards, great French restaurants and amazing scenery. It is ideal for walking holidays as we are in the heart of the countryside.

You can swim in our pool directly opposite your gîte, There are two lakes both with beaches, one in the nearby Montagnes Noir and one is near Carcassonne. This one has boating facilities and both have life guards in attendance. The Canal du Midi offers boat trips and you can walk or cycle along the canal. In Carcassonne on a Saturday there is a market selling local produce and often there is live music which all adds to the atmosphere.

There are several good restaurants in the area and the one at Lastours ”Le Puits du Tresor” has a Michelin star. Conques sur Orbiel has a superb restaurant and pizzeria.
There are many fine and reasonably priced restaurants in and around Carcassonne and in the walled city itself. We are in the well known wine region of Minervois with plenty of caves to visit locally.

We are 30 minutes from the historical walled city of Carcassonne, 1 hour to the Mediterranean Sea, 2 hours to the Pyrenees Mountains, 1.15 hours to Toulouse 1.30 to Albi and 15 min. to the Black Mountains. We are situated right in the heart of the Cathar country.

We enjoyed our stay in Salsigne. The accommodation was amazingly clean, very comfortable and with a well equipped kitchen. If our trip allowed, we would have enjoyed staying longer than overnight.

Pauline and Wally were wonderful hosts. The apartment is fabulous, very comfortable, clean, great kitchen with everything you could possibly need, English TV channels, parking at the door, a cosy wood burning heater that Wally even lit for us each afternoon. They were both very helpful and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here . Thanks Pauline & Wally

Hi We spent a couple of nights at Maison Laura this Summer, went with our two small kids. The stay was pleasant and the hosts were very nice and welcoming. They offered a cot for our youngest even if we had not requested it in advance. The house was in splendid condition. Perfectly clean and in good order, with all facilities and appliances you may need and well decorated. We could have stayed in the house for a long holiday with no problem. The chance to refresh in the swimming pool after a long hot day out visiting the regions wonders was also a plus. Thanks Best Fernando

Welcoming hosts who were there when we arrived and showed us around. They gave good tips on travel. The pool is great and the accommodations very modern and clean. Large comfy bathroom. Set in a quiet village 20 minutes from Carcasonne. The property has been beautifully renovated

Pauline's place is excellent. She and Wally were also tremendous hosts. Having managed an Air bnb myself, I could see the thought and effort that has gone into making Pauline's apartment comfortable. Everything you could possibly need and more is there--just like one's own home (or even better)! The town is also extremely quiet, so wonderful for getting away. Thank you, Pauline and Wally!
