Debs Retreat is ‘Amaroo’, ‘a beautiful place’ from local Aboriginal dialects. Set amongst lush gardens at a privately owned resort Mandalay Avenue, Nelly Bay the resort features magnesium swimming pools, restaurant, bar, tennis courts, childrens playground and bbq area. It’s approximately a 15 minute walk to the ferry terminal, Nelly Bay shops, restaurants, cafes, walking tracks and marina. There is also a designated bus stop outside the front door for access to other areas of the Island.

The space
The resort is a wondrous place with beautiful fauna and wildlife, considered a place of healing with magnesium swimming pools known for therapeutic muscle relaxation and general health. Guests may also interact with wildlife as wallabies and possums are often sighted throughout the magnificent grounds and the birdlife is significant due to specific feed areas, including kookaburras, cockatoos, eagles, curlews and colourful cockatiels.
Other activities available to guests within the resort for health are tennis and gym work outs. Tennis racquets and access to the gym are available from reception within reception hours.
The studio, Unit 130, is privately owned located in a tranquil environment close to all amenities; the magnesium swimming pools, restaurant, bar, tennis courts, guest laundry, gym and bbq area. The space is fully air conditioned, sleeps up to three people with one queen bed and a king single sofa bed available for short or long stays. Long term rental can be negotiated at a special offer. For cooking there is an electric frypan, fast & slow cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery and 2x bar fridges.

Guest access
Check-in is available within a days notice, there are exceptions. Contact with Debra by phone is imperative prior to travelling to the Island to organise check in with key and security fob. There are 2 ferry options, ‘Sealink’ is a passenger ferry located in Townsville or ‘Fantasea’ a car and passenger ferry located in South Townsville, both of these carriers have timetables online.
Arriving at the resort, during Covid concerns, it is a requirement to sign in at reception when entering the resort. At other times use the security fob, follow the path behind the reception building, past the pond & gazebo toward the pool, restaurant and bar to ‘Joyce Bay’ on the left. Unit 130 is the fourth in this row on the right hand side.
All facilities on the resort property are available for guest use; the magnesium swimming pools, lounge and sitting areas, restaurant and bar, barbecues, gymnasium, tennis courts, children’s playground and laundry. The laundry is equipped with two washers and two dryers each operated by four one dollar coins. Tennis courts are booked through reception during reception hours, racquets and gym access are also available from reception.

Other things to note
Most areas of the resort are negotiated by pathways, however, the paths are steep and steps are the only access to the restaurant and bar area. The resort may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties or wheelchair use.
