Beautiful area
Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Lumière Lodge is an 1800s Victorian cottage in West Hobart, restored as an atmospheric private residence just minutes from the city.
Richly layered with antique lighting, collected art, bespoke joinery and deeply coloured rooms, the house offers three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a traditional English kitchen, fireside living and a private cottage garden.
Guests are welcomed with seasonal Tasmanian provisions selected from some of our favourite local makers.
The space
Rich in colour and character, Lumière Lodge unfolds through a series of layered rooms, where antique lighting, collected art and original details sit alongside thoughtful contemporary comforts. Designed as a private residence rather than a conventional holiday rental, the house has an intimacy and atmosphere that reveals itself gradually over the course of a stay.
At the heart of the home is a traditional English-style kitchen, designed for those who genuinely enjoy cooking. It is equipped with quality knives, an induction cooktop, steam oven and combination microwave. Bi-fold doors open directly onto a flagstone courtyard for dining outdoors, surrounded by a cottage garden visited by local birdlife.
Throughout the house, original features and the irregularities of its 1800s origins have been carefully retained. Fireside rooms, antique oil paintings, chandeliers and richly coloured interiors give way to quieter moments of texture, light and history.
Guests are welcomed with a thoughtful selection of seasonal Tasmanian provisions sourced from some of our favourite local makers - a small introduction to the flavours of the island.
Lumière sits in the village-like neighbourhood of West Hobart, with artisan grocers, butchers and neighbourhood eateries close by. Salamanca Place, Hobart’s waterfront, the MONA ferry and the city centre are all within easy reach.
Free on-street and off-street parking is available.

Guests enjoy private use of Lumière Lodge, including the house, cottage garden and flagstone courtyard.
Bedroom Configuration:
Lumière is prepared according to the number of guests booked, with bedrooms allocated as follows:
• 1–2 guests — one bedroom
• 3–4 guests — two bedrooms
• 5–6 guests — three bedrooms, including the attic bedroom
The base rate accommodates one or two guests in one king bedroom, with access to both downstairs bathrooms. An additional guest fee applies above two guests, and bedrooms not allocated to the reservation remain closed.
If your group requires more bedrooms than ordinarily allocated for your guest number, please contact us prior to booking. We are very happy to accommodate different sleeping arrangements where possible; an additional bedroom fee may apply.
Attic Bedroom:
The attic bedroom is reached via a narrow, steep heritage staircase original to the character of the cottage. We recommend this room for the most able member of your group, with assistance provided for luggage where needed.
Young Children:
As an 1800s cottage with antique furnishings and original heritage stairs, Lumière is best suited to families who are comfortable closely supervising young children, particularly those aged 1–6 years.
Visitors, Events & Commercial Use:
Lumière is offered primarily as private accommodation. Weddings and gatherings are generally not permitted, though small, private occasions may occasionally be considered by prior arrangement.
If you are considering inviting additional visitors or service providers to the property during your stay, please contact us beforehand so we can confirm what is appropriate for the home. Additional fees may apply depending on the nature and number of visitors.
Commercial photography, filming and other commercial use of the property are not included as part of an accommodation booking and require separate prior approval and agreement.
Other things to note
Tasmania’s weather can shift quickly, and we recommend packing for sunshine, rain and cooler evenings throughout the year.
Lumière is equipped for comfort across the seasons, with heating and air conditioning, electric blankets and two large wood-burning fireplaces. Firewood is supplied, and during the cooler months we are very happy to have a fire lit in readiness for your arrival.
As an 1800s cottage, Lumière retains the character and gentle irregularities of an old home - all part of its history and charm.

From the host
Lumière Lodge sits in a quiet, leafy pocket of West Hobart, just above the city. Mature English plane trees line the street alongside heritage cottages and character homes, giving this part of Hobart its wonderfully established, old-world feel.
Hill Street Grocer and Hill Street Gourmet Meats are moments away for provisions, while North Hobart’s restaurants, wine bars and cafés are within walking distance. Nearby favourites include Ogee, Trophy Room, Dier Makr and Bar Wa Izakaya, with Salamanca Market and Farm Gate Market easily reached on weekends.
Hobart’s waterfront and Salamanca are a short drive away, while kunanyi / Mount Wellington and the landscapes beyond the city make an easy departure for a day’s exploring.
A considered collection of our favourite places to eat, drink and explore awaits you at Lumière, with recommendations extending well beyond Hobart.

Lumière Lodge is our home in Hobart, which my husband Samuel and I have spent many years restoring. I have a great love of old houses, interiors, gardens and the small details that make travelling memorable. We love sharing our corner of Tasmania with guests and hope Lumière feels as wonderful to return to at the end of the day as it does to set out from in the morning.
