Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Lumière Lodge is a thoughtfully restored 1800s cottage where heritage architecture meets elegant styling. Antique windows frame the changing seasons, fires invite quiet evenings, and a claw-foot bath glows beneath stained glass light. Seasonal Tasmanian provisions await - stone ground sourdough, organic milk and eggs, freshly pressed juice, and locally made condiments - chosen to welcome you with the flavours of the island. The cottage is located three minutes from the city centre when driving.

The space
Rich in colour and character, Lumière Lodge offers spaces to savour - from morning light on polished floors to evenings beneath chandeliers and antique oil paintings. The traditional English kitchen is equipped for cooks and chefs alike, with quality knives, an induction cooktop, steam oven, and combination microwave oven. Bi-fold doors open to a sunny flagstone courtyard for summer dining, while the private cottage garden attracts birdlife year-round.

Longer stays may enjoy Pigeon Whole bake-at-home croissants, and during special seasons - such as Dark Mofo, Easter, and Christmas - additional Tasmanian delicacies are provided. Free on-street and driveway parking is available, and the home is a short walk to Hobart’s artisan grocers, fromageries, wine merchants, Salamanca Place, MONA ferry, and the waterfront.

Awards & Media Recognition:
Lumière Lodge has been celebrated in The Weekend Australian’s Hot 50 Places to Stay in Australia and featured in leading publications including Homes & Gardens UK, Country Style, The Design Files, Australian Traveller, Gourmet Traveller, The Age/Sydney Morning Herald Sunday Life Magazine, Wish Magazine, Time Out, and Traveller Australia. The home has welcomed notable guests, including acclaimed author Elizabeth Gilbert.

Guest access
Guests enjoy exclusive use of the entire home, garden, and courtyard. The base rate includes one bedroom (with use of two downstairs bathrooms) for one or two guests. Additional bedrooms are opened as guest numbers increase:
• 1 bedroom – 1–2 guests
• 2 bedrooms – 3–4 guests
• 3 bedrooms – 5–6 guests (attic suite)

An additional charge of $100 per guest, per night applies above two guests. Rooms not included in your booking will remain closed. The attic suite is accessed via a steep, narrow heritage staircase; we recommend the most able guest carry luggage to and from this level.

Parents of young children should note that the property contains delicate antiques and steep stairs; we do not recommend stays for children aged 1–6 unless closely supervised.

Other things to note
Tasmania’s weather can shift quickly - we recommend packing for rain, sun, and cooler evenings. The home is equipped with electric blankets, air conditioning/heating, and two large wood-burning fireplaces to ensure comfort in all seasons. Firewood is supplied, and in the cooler months we are happy to arrange for the fire to be lit for your arrival.

Neighbourhood highlights

Lumière Lodge is a private residence only a short 4min drive from the city centre. The home is situated on a beautiful street riddled with old character homes and English Plain Trees. It is peaceful and quiet here.

The home is only a stones throw away from Hill Street Grocer (Tasmania’s finest grocer and provedore of fine cheeses) and Hill Street Gourmet Butcher.

Also within walking distance is the North Hobart food district with breweries, cafes and not too far away markets (Farm Gate Market and Salamanca Market). Popular eateries that we recommend - OGEE (5min walk), Templo, Willing Bros, Bar Wa Izakaya, Institut Polaire, Lucinda Wine Bar, Dier Makr, Sonny and Tasmania’s finest - Fico.

A list of recommendations with descriptions will be provided in-house. It is recommended that guests book these iconic restaurants well in advance to avoid disappointment.
