Upgraded in 2015, this cottage has one bedroom, a full kitchen with dining space, sitting area with full-size sofa bed, and a vintage-style bathroom with cast iron claw-foot tub/shower, and back porch with a big view. Many guests love the gardener's cottage for its cozy, private, atmosphere.
The bedroom is furnished from the NAN owners' parents' bedroom, and the kitchen table and other furnishings in the cottage are also family pieces. We hope you are as "at home" here as we are.

The space
The Gardener's Cottage offers the comforts and privacy of home smack in the middle of NAN Ranch's green lawns and rural ambience. It offers a full kitchen, with refrigerator, gas range, microwave, and dishwasher, and is furnished with dishes and cookware. Its one bedroom has a full (double) bed, and children or more guests can sleep on the full sofa sleeper in the sitting area. The renovated bathroom's antique cast-iron tub has been fitted with a shower, and the rest of the bath is vintage to match. There are two doors, both opening onto lawns and both offering terrific views and scenery.

Visiting "good dogs" enjoy the NAN's grounds and are welcome in the Gardener's Cottage and most other accommodations.
The cottage was once home to workers who cared for NAN Ranch's extensive landscaping, but now it's a fully equipped cottage for two to four people. Enjoy views and solitude or follow ranch roads to the tree-lined river, canyons, cliffs and hilltops. Return to shady historic lawns, a refreshing pool. Tomorrow, visit the nearby Gila National Forest, Cliff Dwellings, City of Rocks, or quirky Silver City.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Y-Bar NAN Ranch headquarters was once the center of a self-sustaining agricultural property, and is still a working ranch. In the 1920s, a "modern" Mediterranean revival residence and extensive landscaping were added next to the 1912 bungalow-style Rancher's House, and today we share our shady gardens and broad lawns, pool courtyard, fountain patio and magical ambience with guests in the Rancher's House and smaller cottage, bunkhouse cabin, and apartment accommodations. The grounds are a romantic setting for weddings and other parties, and a spacious adobe barn easily transforms to the sparkling party place of your imagination.

NAN Ranch has multiple rental accommodations and can sleep up to 60 in beds. See our other listings here, and consider the ranch for your reunion or other destination event!

Where you’ll be

Faywood, New Mexico, United States

The Mimbres River in southwestern New Mexico is a little-known green and leafy branch of history and refreshing water and shade, flowing from high in the Black Range of the Gila National Forest. Faywood is a tiny community along the river, with only a post office and a small Catholic church. The closest full-service grocery stores are in Silver City or Deming, though there is a small store at San Lorenzo, a few miles upriver. The Gila National Forest is accessible to Ranch guests via ranch roads, and public National Forest access by highway is north on NM 61, then north on NM 152/35 through Mimbres. The City of Rocks State Park is nearby, and the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is a short scenic drive through the forest. Silver City is a quirky, arty community of miners, ranchers, artists, outdoorsy people, and retirees from far and wide – and its Western New Mexico University museum is home to the extensive NAN Ranch Collection of prehistoric Mimbreño artifacts and cultural remains, excavation within a half-mile of ranch headquarters
