“AN AUTHENTIC RURAL HOUSE IN PEACEFUL RURAL SETTING CLOSE TO ALL AMMENITIES"

4 of 5 starsReviewed August 20, 2014
The house is set in a quiet hilltop village with beautiful views of nearby vineyards and distant hills but only 10 minutes drive to Carcasonne with shops and restaurants and the beautifully preserved Cité. Central for Toulouse, Narbonne, Albi, The Pyrenees etc etc. An ideal place to stay for those who want to discover and for those who like to rest beside the pool.

"CHARMING BSE FOR EXPLORING CARCASSONNE AND THE REGION"

5 of 5 starsReviewed August 1, 2014
This comfortable and unpretentious house with idiosyncratic charm was a perfect base for our family to explore Carcassonne and other beautiful and fascinating corners of the Languedoc. Also we walked every day from the house through vineyards and along hilltop tracks. A spacious house in a quiet 'circulade' hilltop village, with narrow streets and a medieval church at its centre. We breakfasted on the terrace, basked in sunshine, looking out over rolling vineyards and the road down below, to distant hazy hills. The pool is small with sparkling blue water, particularly good in the morning with the sun on it, but shady later on. The small supermarket 3 minutes walk away had all the basic requirements plus local cheese and meats, fresh fruit and veg, and fresh bread and pastries. The restaurant served good food and the people are all extremely friendly and helpful. The owners could not have been more helpful at the booking stage and the pre-holiday info was perfect. We had a wonderful week there.

"RELAXING SIMPLICITY- BEAUTIFUL VIEWS - CHARACTERFUL PROPERTY”
5 of 5 starsReviewed August 23, 2011

Absolutely beautiful old character property with amazing views over the countryside. Much larger than it originally appears. In the middle of Preixan but feels very private due to high walls around garden. Pool overlooking views. Fantastic local restaurant and good local small supermarket. The owner was incredibly helpful and the local staff who look after the property were very friendly. Would definitely recommend this property. Stayed there for a week and it was very relaxing.

This house was absolutely perfect for a chilled out break in the south of France. The town of Preixan was small but had all you needed and Carcassonne was only a short drive away. There was plenty to do in the area with lots of Winerys for wine-tasting, a beautiful medieval city in Carcassonne perfectly maintained and the Mediterranean coast was only 50kms away. The shops in Preixan are only a 2 minute walk away and open at very specific times, but the owner was very helpful in letting us know when to go and when not to. There were buses into Carcassonne but a car is advised as there is a lot to explore in the area and it was a lot more convenient for going to the beach. The owner and staff looking after the property were very helpful with local attractions and advise on what's going on in the area.
However good the local attractions are, the house is really enough by itself, the pool is completely private surrounded by bushes and walls and the terrace has stunning views from morning to night for eating out on. The house is beautifully authentic and a lot bigger than the photos online, it had everything we needed, the bedrooms were very comfortable with awesome views all round.
We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and would go back again in a heartbeat. 10/10

Maireads house is lovely and typically French. We had a lovely stay there and will certainly return. Mairead was excellent in her communication and couldn't be more helpful. Preixan is a lovely quiet village and the locals were very friendly.

We had a great stay at Mairead & Noel's house in Preixan. The house & grounds are beautiful but it was the view from the terrace out to the Aude river & surrounding hills that was the highlight for us & we spent most of our time gawping at that! We are 3 generations of family plus 3 dogs, not every hosts' cup of tea with little toddlers & pets but Mairead & Noel made us feel very welcome & because the house is so spacious we were very comfortable & happy there. All Mairead's communications were prompt, friendly, helpful & informative. Her directions to the place were spot on & she offered alternative access routes as we were travelling in wide vans - parking is ample. The village is beautifully situated up on a hill overlooking the river valley & it's really handy having a shop in town & so close. The house has tall, wide, secure garden gates & division fencing between patio & pool areas - all giving us great peace of mind for safety of children & dogs so we weren't worrying where they were every second & could switch off a bit ourselves - after all it's our holiday too! The pool & surrounding sunbathing terrace are charming & a great plus on a hot day. The upper terrace has a big outdoor dining area & BBQ. The kitchen is well provided for & there is a separate little utility space with washing machine which we found vital with kids. The living room has a good TV/DVD set up plus more of 'that view' to the east. Period details throughout including gorgeous curved staircase up to the 3 spacious airy bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. All bed linens & towels are provided & were clean & very fresh. The listing's photos & description are accurate & we weren't disappointed by anything. The only thing we feel the place lacked was a dishwasher which meant I kept wishing I was still sitting on the terrace instead of washing up, but that's all. All in all our entire family really enjoyed our stay here & we wished we could have stayed much longer. A highly recommended AirBnB. Thanks Mairead, Noel & family for your hospitality. Best wishes, Meg & Family

The material from Mairead was really useful and spot on. Worth mentioning how tight the streets are - don't hire a big car!
