A truly special romantic hideaway tucked away in native bush, where the serenity & mountain surrounds are yours to immerse in and enjoy. The authentic log cabin enjoys all day sun with surrounding alpine mountain, & hilltop views. Outdoor areas provide a haven for relaxation and the opportunity of sitting under a canopy of an aged wisteria vine whilst listening to the abundant bird-life, BBQing a delightful meal, or simply taking in the solitude and the breathtakingly refreshing mountain air.

Recently I had the opportunity to stay in this amazing cabin, and I was ever so grateful to walk into what is definitively a home away from home.
The loveliest of all was finding the fire ready to be lit, a kitchen begging to be explored and the overwhelming sense of wellbeing I felt in the environs upon arrival with my daughter.
I felt my soul heal whilst spending four delightful days surrounded within pristine bush and the mountain setting, whilst enjoying the pleasure of a cosy warm cabin and the mesmerising flames of the fireplace. The pure joy of being able to relax, play and bond with my daughter in this ambience was simply divine.
The host has gone beyond what most would expect to find in this very well-appointed cabin, from first aid, various media, puzzles and even toys for children to play with. Out side there is plenty to explore and enjoy; or just relax in the outside chairs soaking up the environs, and listening to the magical birdlife.
On the day of departure I could see the first fall of snow on the mountains; simply a breathtakingly magical sight.
I cannot wait to go back and try out the skiing, tramping and some of the other activities.

Complete access to our secluded Log Cabin set in serene private native bush environs. Enjoy our outside setting and decks complemented with a delightful BBQ whilst listening to our native birds and taking in our majestic alpine mountain views of the Southern Alps. Watch our native falcons crusing the bush clad valley or head up to the foot of mountain entrance, & indulge in the south western magical sunset views (or conversely, the morning sunrise sea views east); or enjoy a picnic whilst indulging in a refreshing swim in our delightful tarn. Relaxing short or longer walks are there to enjoy too; likewise bike tracks, and over winter time enjoy the privilege of skiing or snowboarding on a well rated private ski field (catering for learners to seasoned skiers) within the southern alps itself. Snow maybe about our log cabin itself over winter time so enjoy the pleasure of tobogganing at home when this occurs over the winter period too.
Other things to note
We have a downstairs lounge room double sofa bed arranged for guests to indulge in relaxed comfort whilst enjoying our log fire, listening to your favourite music or watching an engrossing movie.

The Log Cabin Mt Lyford is set in an unspoiled natural alpine environment, tucked away in a delightful serene and relatively secluded bush setting at the foot of the Southern Alps (our largest NZ mountain range) some twenty minutes away from any shops. Come prepared with appropriate clothing, adequate food and drinks, and of course any personal items you need in every day life. We enjoy the privilege of not only having a great private ski field, but also great tramping and cycle tracks and much more. Mt Lyford is under one hour to Kaikoura (whale, seal and dolphin watching), and likewise Hanmer Springs (natural hot thermal springs). Its also only one and three quarter hours to Christchurch Airport, through diverse and picturesque countryside and vineyards.
