Peaceful, air-con well-fitted and stocked kitchen, fully self contained home, verandahs on 2 sides, overlooks rainforest & organic gardens. 2km from Charlestown Sq or Westfield Kotara-both have restaurants & cinemas! The famous Fernleigh Track 200m along a bush track. Cycle 13km to the Lake or 2km-Westfield. 15min drive to Newcastle CBD. Bushwalks & beaches nearby! No TV (we are thanked for this). Unlimited Wifi-you can watch anything you want on your own device.

The space

Everyone agrees that the Magic Cabin is great value for a peaceful (note: no TV!), air cond, completely self-contained cottage with verandahs on two sides, overlooking and set in rainforest and mature organic Permaculture gardens developed over 30yrs. It really doesn't feel like you are so close to the city!
The kitchen has a Microwave oven, electric jug, plug-in double hotplate stove, a toaster and a plug-in Convection Oven and a full-size fridge stocked with some essentials (my home-made organic muesli, fresh fruit, butter, eggs, condiments, milk, etc). In addition to teas, coffees, and organic Cacao, I keep the kitchen stocked with basics like rice, flour, noodles, cooking oil, and Cow, Soy and Rice long-life milks, etc. Gluten-free bread and other breads are in the freezer to make toast. I make home-made organic muesli for you - with organic goodies: almonds, pepitas, sunflower, Chia and sesame seeds, sultanas, dates, oats, etc.

The Cabin has a bedroom (with wardrobe, queen bed), bathroom (shower and toilet, hair dryer), fully equipped kitchen (with full-size fridge, etc), and dining/living areas where there is a fold out lounge that can sleep up to 2 extra people (small double bed though..). NOTE: If you book for only 2 people but want the extra bed made up, there is a cash charge of $20 on arrival, to cover cleaning please.
There is also an iron and ironing board and you have a private clothesline on one side of the verandah.

Situated at the end of a quiet no-through street, on a hill overlooking a nature sanctuary rainforest gully and organic gardens. You can enjoy the morning sun and wildlife from the verandahs that wrap the north and eastern sides of the Cabin.

We have had many people thank us that there is no TV. However we understand that some people may find this unusual.

There is unlimited internet NBN 24/7.

We share the garden with a large variety of friendly lizards, birdlife and other native creatures. Margaret Springs and Glenrock State Conservation Area connect to the rear of our property.

Just behind the gully is the famous Fernleigh Tunnel and cycleway that goes about 13km through bushland from the city to Lake Macquarie. There are also fabulous bush walks through rainforest, past waterfalls and coastal heathlands to beautiful sandy beaches and lagoons.

The Magic Cabin is close to everything!
• 2km to major CBD of Charlestown (Charlestown Square) or Westfield, Kotara,
• Many restaurants, clubs, Tapas, Pizza, Markets, etc.
• Close to many beautiful sandy Beaches
• 15 mins drive to Newcastle CBD,
• 19 mins to Newcastle University (longer in heavy traffic).
• Whale watching, dolphins, vineyards.
• Boating activities, fishing.

Great Fun includes: surfing, ocean swimming pools (Merewether and Newcastle ocean Baths-free), fishing, sailing, kayaking, bushwalking, or wine appreciation in the nearby Hunter Valley.

Nearest train station is Broadmeadow (8min drive away). Buses are a short walk away (322 bus and any bus that travels along the Pacific Hwy which is a short walk away). I might be able to pick you up - just ask : )
Williamtown (Newcastle) Airport is 35-45 min drive away and may be expensive in a taxi. I can pickup/dropoff for $25 cash.

Fully self-contained Cottage with a separate entry through the side gate.

Interaction with guests

I will try to be home to show you in. After that I leave you to your privacy. Unless you would like to go for a bush walk - I'm often keen on that!

Other things to note

Please note that if the booking is for only 2 people but you would like the lounge made up as an extra bed, there is an extra $20 cleaning fee in addition to the booking for the 2 people. Also, the lounge folds down into a double bed but is quite small.

Check in time is after 2pm. Just let me know the time you will be arriving so I can show you in.
No pets as this is a wildlife sanctuary
Smoking on verandahs please (not inside cabin)
I will protect the beds with plastic mattress protectors in case of accidental bed-wetting - such as with children, so please ensure the children are sleeping on the bed with the plastic protector. I don't mind if they sleep with you, but I will need to protect whichever bed they are sleeping in.
This is a residential area. Please respect our neighbours and park only in front of my house, and keep noise to a minimum.
I ask that you please remember to turn off the air conditioner if you go out. It takes 10mins to warm the Cabin up in Winter, or cool it in Summer so doesn't require being left on. I can't claim electricity costs you see as it is part of my home electricity...

Please be mindful that although we have a 320L hot water tank, there are others who need the hot water too... Please keep showers to a minimum.

Tranquil space with beautiful sounds of whip birds, seeing the wild-life (large lizards, tiny birds and possums - glad we had some binoculars!!); experiencing the hailstone storm and lightening was a bonus! Great selection of books and great to have free wi-fi to watch a movie. Well stocked cupboards and fridge for breakfast and snacks. Local bus into town is just a short walk up the road.

We loved staying at the magic cottage. The location was incredibly peaceful despite being so central. The cottage was cosy and inviting, and the verandah hard to leave. The wildlife was plentiful and interesting. Lovely walking and cycling track nearby. The muesli was delicious and all the little treats welcome. We will definitely stay with Maree at the Magic Cottage again when we return to Newcastle. Thank you from Eric, Phoebe and Martina.

Maree's place was just lovely, as was Maree's hospitality. Lots of trees, and the most delicious big-yoked organic eggs I've ever tasted. Thanks so much Maree!

Sitting on the balcony enjoying a coffee it was hard to believe that just 10 meters away was the hustle and bustle of urban life. The cabin felt so secluded wrapped in a blanket of all the best that nature could offer. The tin roof must be magical when it rains. We were greeted by our host Maree who was warm, friendly and very welcoming. We are looking forward to our next stay

Quiet, relaxing place right next to Glenrock Recreation Area, which for us was a big attraction. The kitchen was really well equipped and I especially liked the fact that Maree had left us oil, butter, bread and other essentials. It made the whole four days very homely. We loved it.

Eco-Landscape Designer - I design organic gardens, Nature Sanctuaries. Secretary of Australian Plants Society (Newcastle Group). Love bushwalking and photography.

My jetsetting mother lives in the Cabin and is away for weeks/months at a time and would love some travellers to take advantage of the beautiful spot. Hence the fully self-contained cabin is available. It is in a very quiet street, set amongst rainforest and permaculture/habitat style vegetable gardens.
