'Surfside The Bluff with Spa’ is a modern, self-contained apartment on the lower floor of our newly built home. It's an awesome location, private and perfect for two on a romantic getaway. A few mins walk from Park Beach, in Frederick Henry Bay, suitable for surfing, swimming and leisurely walks. It's 25 mins to airport; 35 mins to Hobart and easy access to Port Arthur, Tasman Peninsula, Richmond and East Coast. It has great views over the surf and bay from the deck and a relaxing hot jacuzzi.

The space
The beautiful, relaxing apartment has a separate entrance and driveway with private, off-street parking. It is ideally suited for a couple to stay and is totally separate, and on a different floor, from our living quarters (sound proof batts between) and is very comfortable and tastefully decorated.

The modern bathroom has underfloor heating in winter as well as a vanity unit and basin, bath with shower over and toilet. The relaxing bedroom has a new pillow-top double bed with four pillows, linen and extra pillows and throw rug if needed. There's some wardrobe space, a desk with chair and a comfortable leather armchair in this room.

The cosy lounge-dining room, with it's stunning views out over the beach has a TV and DVD player with some DVDs for your enjoyment. It has a comfy 3-seater lounge and there’s a small dining room table and 2 chairs.

Our new, fully equipped kitchenette has been installed, Dec 2019, and now has an oven, cooktop, pull-out extractor, single drawer dishwasher, microwave oven, small fridge/freezer, kettle and toaster. The cupboards house the usual crockery, cutlery and basic cookware and utensils.

We provide tea and coffee making facilities and a selection of breakfast cereals. Our local IGA store has pre-prepared food, gourmet selections and the usual grocery lines. Two nearby hotels serve meals seven days a week along with a bakery, takeaway and various food vans.

The wooden deck allows for al fresco dining with a view and you can cook outdoors on the electric grill BBQ plate provided on the tray table, the powerpoint is below the key box location. You can access our relaxing 2-metre square, hot, outdoor jacuzzi to unwind your tired body. (Please use responsibly, enter at own risk and take a quick shower first.)

While enjoying your stay, you can take the opportunity to experience a breathtaking sunrise, ocean sea breezes and beautiful evening light that catches the foamy wave tops and surfers below.

The beach is a great place to take a walk and there is a track around the Bluff leading to Red Ochre Beach on the other side. Along the way, there's interesting views out over Big and Little Spec Islands, Whale Rock and the greater Frederick Henry Bay where whales make annual visits. You might be lucky enough to view one from the whale viewing platform up along the track.

You could also encounter some cute, native, wildlife local to our area as you stroll along. Depending on the time of year and day, we sometimes see echidnas, bandicoots, wallaby, potaroos and lots of birds including at times, sea eagles, kookaburras, black cockatoos, mountain parrots and a brown goshawk.

If you're feeling active over summer, come and visit and you can be assured of a fun, comfortable and relaxing stay at 'Surfside – The Bluff’!

Guest access
Guests should drive into our lower driveway off Riaweena Road and park in the car space provided on the right. Access to the apartment entry door is made by following the path of pavers at the top driveway along the lefthand side of the house. (Top driveway off Waranteena Street is our private entry only.)

The entry door is up four steps and onto the sandstone patio where you will find a combination lockbox to the right of the glass entry door containing the key for self check-in. We will release your unique code just before checkin time of 2pm.

While staying at Surfside – The Bluff you can access the patio, lower deck with table and chairs and use the steps to the upper deck to sit and look out over the view. The jacuzzi is available for your responsible use at your own risk; please take a quick shower first.

There is also access to a grassed flat area along the side of the apartment with the paved pathway running through.

Other things to note
We are on tank water and ask that guests are water-wise.

We have a new kitchen installed. Please take care when cooking not to spill or splash all over cooktop, splash-back and oven. Always wipe down or wash after use, including oven if you plan to use it. If these are left dirty an extra cleaning fee may apply.

We use a septic tank so please no foreign objects in the toilet.

PLEASE NOTE RE SPA CHANGE: Very rarely, after checking the litmus for the spa we will need to empty and refill it at 11am. The spa is two metres square and holds around 1400 litres of water. It takes an hour and a half to empty and then around an hour and a half to fill. Once filled, it takes approximately eight hours to heat back up to temperature. Sometimes this will occur when a booking is in place, this means it may not get back up to temperature until around 11pm.

Our neighbourhood has all the essentials – local shops include an IGA supermarket with a fuel outlet and newsagent/post office. Here you can find the usual products along with fresh fruit and vegetables, a gourmet delicatessen serving fresh seafood, salads, breads and much more.

Nearby you will find a pharmacy, butcher, bakery/cafe, bottle shop and takeaway. We also have a local a doctor (Dodges Ferry Medical) and two hairdressers.

Thursday to Sunday evenings there’s usually a Pizza van near the shops and one or two other Takeaway Food vans in the area.

Take a short walk to the bottom of Riaweena Road and opposite is the Mullet Cafe, serving breakfast and cafe food during the day (opening hours change from summer to winter so you will need to check before you go).

If you’re looking for a counter meal, we have two local hotels open seven days a week, the Lewisham Tavern and the Dodges Hotel and Bistro with a BWS bottle shop.

Sorell is a bigger town, only 15 minutes drive, where you will find Coles and Woolworths supermarkets opening late and lots of other facilities.

During your stay
Lexi and Steve – we are a retired couple, both Tasmanians whose ancestors came out on the First Fleet, later went to Norfolk Island then sent to populate Tasmania in around 1810. Our families have lived in the area for generations and we have great local knowledge. You may not see us as we have a separate driveway and entry but we are sometimes in the garden down near the driveway or topping up the bird feeder. We may not always be home as we go off travelling in our caravan but, if we are home, we are happy to interact when invited.
