If you’re looking for something creative, completely different, full of character, very comfortable and you want to be spoilt, the award winning Silver Street Studio will not disappoint. The architectural spaces are lovely. The materials have been gathered from historic sites of yesteryear such as old Rob’s Jetty, the Fremantle Wool stores, an old limestone church and the Swanbourne Hospital: The space is an eclectic mix of beautiful artworks, rich oriental rugs, wonderful books and objets d’art

The space
As a romantic retreat, the Silver Street Studio has an ambient charm which is hard to beat. With a fascinating history, this well known icon weaves together many a story in South Fremantle. Originally built as artists studios, then used as a gallery, the Studio has now been thoughtfully converted into a creative 'home away from home’: a special retreat and ideal romantic getaway.

This comfortable eclectic space is the perfect santuary in which to escape the pressures of contemporary living. Just a stones throw from the harbour, South Beach, the yacht club and South Fremantle’s culinary hub, the Studio is quiet but within easy reach of the beach and 'all things Fremantle'.

On arrival, you enter the property through a small wooden door within a large 'medieval' gate. Ivy trails over the high limestone walls which seclude a lush courtyard garden shaded by plane trees, a poinciana, an olive, and grape vine in summer.

The Studio buildings have been constructed from large local limestone blocks rescued from a former church, magnificent one hundred year old timbers from 'Rob's' (South Fremantle) Jetty, and other items of memorabilia, including a turret, from the old Swanbourne Hospital, which is illuminated by night.

For the initial unwind, we welcome you with a bottle of fine Western Australian ‘red’ and a cheese platter. Local chocolates, flowers and a delicious breakfast hamper of gourmet goodies also awaits you for your first morning and beyond. Besides seasonal fruits, the basket contains local jams, muesli, eggs, yogurt, gourmet teas and freshly baked bread from our local bakery at the end of the street....and more.

The eastern courtyard provides an ideal setting for enjoying a relaxed breakfast, alfresco lunch and/or an intimate BBQ dinner. Huge glass sliding doors connect this leafy outdoor garden to the main living area and former sculpture studio.

The downstairs space is open plan and now has a well equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge. Oriental rugs, art, quality furnishings, and the character and architecture of the building all combine to create a lovely space within a very restful environment..

The large upper studio level, originally used for producing ceramics, is now reached internally via an industrial steel staircase. The main bedroom area has a very comfortable queen size bed, supplied with best quality bedding and white French linen sheets. A mezzanine walkway connects the bedroom to the bathroom,/ dressing room. This large upstairs room opens onto the north facing balcony where a Victorian four claw bath is plumbed in so you can enjoy a relaxing soak under the stars. The former kiln room, to the left, is a now a peaceful reading/meditation room - and occasional spare bedroom in summer..

The downstairs utility room houses our two mountain bikes which can be made available on request. Fremantle is very bicycle friendly and there are numerous cycle tracks which follow the coastal heathlands to the North and South.

An extra single bed can be made available on request and/or a cot for a small baby. Please note that the Studio is very open plan. It is not a suitable space for active toddlers, or the elderly.

There is shaded parking on Silver Street for those travelling by car. We are also on the the local bus route or you can take the bikes. Check out some of the local attractions and other amenities at the Tourist Bureau

Guest access
Guests are completely self contained and have their own entrance via Silver Street lane. Silver Street is just a short stroll to South Beach, a wonderful swimming beach

Other things to note
The Studio is a wonderfully open plan space beautifully suited to couples. We do occasionally put up a single bed for a third person. Please note that the Studio is not suitable for those who are very aged or infirm. There is an industrial steel staircase linking the ground and first floor levels. Nor, is it suitable for very active toddlers. However, it is in its entirety, a very private space sitting behind high limestone walls on a leafy street yet so close to a great culinary hub, the beach and all South Fremantle has on offer.
