Guest access
Our eco-friendly site is off-grid and low-impact with solar power and dry composting toilets. No Wi-Fi is available and phone reception is limited. Please ensure this accommodation style aligns with your holiday preferences.

On your holiday you'll explore our permaculture gardens and pristine bush surroundings. The Crossing Land is a registered conservation property so no pets are permitted. The camp borders the Bermagui River boasting tidal waters teeming with diverse marine life, perfect for canoeing or fishing. Local boat rentals are available in Bermagui. Expect encounters with native kangaroos, wallabies, birds, glider possums, and goannas during warmer days.

At The Crossing Land, you'll enjoy access to a commercial-style kitchen, "community hall" lounge/living area, and separate male/female bathrooms, each with two showers. There are six composting toilets, with four located within 15 meters of the main accommodation building on the east side of the community hall, one at the bus house and one near the fire circle on the west side of the community hall.

We use an eco-friendly dry composting toilet system at The Crossing Land - but don't let that scare you off! This system functions really well and without smell. It's an important part of our sustainable property. If you're unfamiliar with dry composting toilets, just know that after each use a cup of sawdust should be added and the lid closed. Your host will make sure all members of your group are aware of these requirements on the arrival tour.

While The Crossing Land offers a sense of remoteness, you are just a 15-minute drive to Bermagui and nearby beaches, with a portion of the route on an unsealed dirt road (2wd accessible). Bermagui has a Woolworths, choice of excellent cafes, world-class beaches, shopping, recreational gear hire, and regular art events and live music.

Dean and Annette, your hosts, live 500m away through the bush. They are passionate about sustainable living and have extended experience in environmental education. They established The Crossing Land Education Trust 25 years ago as a non-profit environmental education centre for young people. Along the journey thousands of young people have contribute to the design.

Other things to note
Please care for our sustainable systems and they'll care for you. Simple, conscious choices like using eco-friendly shampoo and body wash, conserving water, and being aware of your electricity use go a long way to keeping The Crossing Land functioning at its best. And if you have any worries just ask your host :)

We are keen to welcome people who can feel at home here while also caring for our low impact systems. This means you will be conscious of power and water usage and use natural and chemical free products during your stay at The Crossing Land. As a nature conservation site and small farm we are pet free to protect the animals here including our native wildlife with many threatened and endangered species recorded on site.
