One of the best holidays we ever had. The most warming wellcome, beatiful and spacious house, lovely garden and vegetable patch everything was wonderful and children and parents thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Thank you. Uma das melhores férias que passámos. Acolhimento mais do que caloroso, numa casa linda, com grandes salas, jardim e horta que fizeram as delícias de grandes e pequenos. Muito obrigado.

Maria and her mother are really nice, kind people. The house is spacious with enough rooms and located near the beach, but you do need a car. The house is located in a very small village, with a tiny supermarket just around the corner. There is not a lot of excitement in this town but If you are in for nice food there are good restaurants near the beach. If you have kids they can take surf lessons in the area.

We had a very pleasant stay in Marias house in the small village of Gouveia outside of Sintra, and found it a good base to explore the area. We received a warm welcome from Maria' mother and daughter who even had prepared a meal for us. The house is beautiful, cool on warm summer days (never slept better) and a bit to large for a family of only four! It will easily accomodate 8-10 people. We were given good advice on the local fascilities (shops, beaches, restaurants, sightseeing etc.). There's a lovely fishmarket in Praia Macas, a good wine shop (and grocery) in Janas run by an enthusiastic owner and a fine butcher in Fontanelas. There are a few large beaches in driving distance from the house, but Our favorite quickly became the local Beach, Praia da Aguda. Though it is accessed by a quite steep stairway, it is calm, secluded and not crowded. The paths along the cliffs are also great for jogging, hiking and mountain biking. Last tip, if you want to rent a road bike (like we did), there's a shop outside Sintra (Funbike).

This is a lovely house, great for a family break. Having two sitting rooms was very useful in the evenings- everyone had space to read or watch TV. Maria's mother was very welcoming and kindly left home cooked food for us and also accommodated a later arrival time. The location is fantastic- we had two great weeks exploring Sintra and all of the local beaches as well as Cascais and Lisbon. We were disappointed to discover the garden is shared meaning we had little privacy in the garden or in the house as the windows are floor to ceiling and allow clear view into the house from the garden which starts one metre away. The other half of the garden was visited once or twice daily by the other users and this was not mentioned in the listing. Our kids loved the pool and the part of the garden that is available for use with the house rental is spacious and very lovely. A great area to visit for a family holiday and Maria responded quickly when we contacted her.

Response from Maria:
We were a very nice family and very polite the way you talk with us. Unfortunately you didn´t enjoy the gardener's working next to our garden. We understand, each family is diferent and "guest are always right", that is our motto! We understand your unpleasant but it was the first time that this dislike was reported . We already have a solution to solve the problems of privacy for guests who do not want to see the gardner in the garden next to us.

Maria's mother was waiting for us with selfmade food and was very friendly! There was wine and food in the fridge and it felt like coming home. Definitely a place to come back :)

The house was perfect for our family holiday near Sintra. The atmosphere in the house was very good and we were welcomed by Maria's mother. She had left the kitchen table full of snacks and fresh vegetables from the orchard.

Maria's mom, Mimi made us feel most welcome in her beautiful home. We arrived after a long trip and were amazed by the house, the furniture in it and by the wonderful dinner Mimi prepared for us. The place is just as it looks in the photos and maybe better. The atmosphere in the village is lovely and calm, the people so friendly and we were most helpful and kind - in the shops, in the restaurant... We loved the place, it's really close to Sintra and beaches (even though we didn't really go because of the rainy days) and other picturesque villages. The house is well equipped, also for kids, we felt like it was our home for a few days. Thank you!
