Find yourself dreaming of a cozy little country getaway in a space filled with warmth, history, charm, and style? Then the Hartman Church is a perfect destination. Just minutes from Toronto and other smaller local towns, the guesthouse is inspired by old English country houses and excels in a slightly eccentric mixture of antique and contemporary decor creating a timeless interior design. This historical space is a stylish yet comfortable and practical destination for travellers.

The space
A totally unique, spacious, dwelling space within a converted church built in 1899, this is the rear unit of the building.

As you enter off the flagstone patio, you are welcomed by a massive open and spacious, brightly-lit, loft-style great room with 16 ft. vaulted ceilings. In it you will find a sitting area with a Victorian day bed and antique Indian cot for lounging on, a variety of books, cozy warm fuzzy blankets and pillows, and a desk with chair that's been known to be used by numerous writers that have stayed at the property.

Being an open concept space, you can prepare a meal with farm-fresh ingredients from local markets and farms in the quaint country eat-in kitchen with all its amenities; full fridge, stove and dishwasher. Included are glasses, dishes, cookware and utensils. We do not provide any food items like oil, spices, or coffee.

The main bedroom sleeps 2 on a comfortable and plush Queen bed, has a settee and a private large bathroom with massive shower and double sinks.

The loft...so fun! Up the industrial ladder is a cute space for one person to sleep on a twin bed, and enjoy the space from above. A little bit of acrobatics are necessary to get to this space so it’s not for everyone to try.

Owned by an architect and artist, this unique old building has been featured in film productions, several issues of magazines and countless number of blogs. It's vibe has often been well appreciated by videographers and photographers and used for shoots. If this is you're thing, please be sure to let us know as special rules apply.

To sum up what makes this place exceptional.... First off, the fact that it is a church and that the original foundation predates Canada (in 1843)! You can look out the large picture windows, letting in floods of sunlight (or romantic moonlight), and enjoy the views of the neighbouring farm fields as far as the eye can see. It's quiet and cozy with loads of charm. It's nestled in Ontario's farm country but it's still a stone throw away from the big city.

Purposely designed without a TV we wanted to encourage our guests to go back to a time when simple things mattered, this is a place for dreamers to reset, reflect, and create. A true space for either unwinding in the peacefulness of the countryside, for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts being close to hiking trails and cycling on country roods, for that romantic getaway out of the city, etc. Designed interiors with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; from making coffee by drip in the morning, choosing the perfect book to read as the sun sets, or play a board game.

Guest access
You have access the entire guesthouse.

Other things to note
Although there is a wood stove in the space, due to the age and installation if this item many years ago, it does not comply with today’s standards so it’s use is not insured and is therefore not permitted. A few small candles are fine to be lit within the opening for some added ambiance if you like.

Hi there! We are Alex and Sandra, your hosts! We have been married for over 20 years. We are both entrepreneurs, designers, educators, and parents to our children, 4 dogs, and heritage chickens. We have a busy life, but never too busy to try new things and dream! This is what brought us to acquire our properties....and now becoming hosts on 'air bnb'. We are not farmers or 'country people' by upbringing. We both are originally from the big city of Toronto but love the country lifestyle. We love meeting new people, antique shopping, family, traveling and entertaining! We try to travel and stay in interesting places and experience different vacations as often as possible. We are happy to offer those same experiences for our guests.
