House rules
This place isn’t suitable for infants (0–2 yrs) and the host doesn’t allow parties or smoking.
The space
A traditional house set in a pleasant garden , over 100 years old, but fully modernised for comfort. On the edge of Birmingham, only 22mins from the city centre by train, but only 1/2 mile from the countryside and near golf courses, the Lickey Hills and country pubs.

Guest access
The room, garden and communal area. Ask for the key to access the garage for bicycle storage.

Other things to note
Parking is by arrangement on the drive in front of the garage - please request it when booking so I can ensure a spot and open the gates for your arrival. Room for 2 small / 1 large car(s).
Please let me know if you plan to be out late - this is a quiet neighbourhood and it's not fair to disturb the neighbours with noise late at night. In addition, I like to make sure everything is turned off and the house is properly locked up and alarm set before I go to bed (guests have previously messed up the alarm and disturbed the neighbours). We sometimes have appointments during the week so check out needs to be before 9.30am most days but can be 10am at weekends or on days when we don't have to go out. Let us know your plans at time of booking.
Parking usually available on the drive at the side of the house or in front of the building close to the wall (Extra parking just round the corner if more parking is needed). Secure bicycle/motorcycle storage in garage. Small pets welcome (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, etc). I can cater for special diets by prior request (e.g non dairy milk, gluten free breakfast) and can offer some meals if requested in advance.
I am happy for you to use the kitchen to heat up something or make a snack/simple meal but please bear in mind that my lodger and I also have to cook.
If you want to bring a sleeping bag and your own towels so that I do not have to provide linen and you inform me of this before booking, I will send you a special offer reduction in price.
Hairdrier available and straighteners, blowdrier, etc, available on request.
If you have any special requirements, please state them at time of booking.

What guests most enjoy is the tranquility of the setting and the garden. Children love the garden and the animals. The house is set on a quiet, block-paved residential cul-de-sac near playing fields within walking distance of a large shopping complex with Sainsburys, Costa Coffee, Beefeter and Marks and Spencers (opening 5th November ) which also contains a pub (The Cambridge) and various other eateries. There are three nearby chip shops, a medical centre, hairdressers and an excellent dental surgery within walking distance .
Easy access to both the town and country, on excellent transport links near the M42 and M5 and on good bus and train links to Redditch, Solihull and central Birmingham.
20 minutes walk away from Cofton Park where the Fusion Festival takes places and Pope Benedict canonised Cardinal Newman. Up the hill from the park is a golf course and the Lickey Hills Country Park visitor centre (fre car parking) which has a cafe and children's play area. The country park is a great place for picnics and summer evening strolls and games of football - it closes at dusk. There is another area off Monument Lane where there are open spaces and children can play on a folly.
A short drive away, at Great Park, is a leisure complex with a cinema, bowling, etc. There is an excellent Chinese take away, the Hong Kong Inn, about 15 mins walk (or a short drive) away and we love the Himalayan restaurant on the Bristol Road South.
If you want pub grub, you could try the Hopwood House with beer garden next to the canal or the cosy country pub, The Peacock.

I bake bread and cakes. I go into Birmingham city centre most weekends to go shopping for fresh fruit and vegetables from the market and often come back with a plant or some flowers. I have a selection of houseplants throughout the property. I also love mooching around the Museum and Art Gallery. I am interested in history and cultural events but my main hobbies are yoga and swimming. I have degrees in archaeology and French. I love animals and spend a lot of time looking after my birds, rabbits, fish pond and fish tanks (all of which, except the fish tanks, are in the garden room or garden so no mess in the house). My carpets , kitchen and bathroom are regularly steam-cleaned but my house is still homely.
