Visit Atlantium... the smallest country in Australia!

Atlantium is located on a 0.76 square kilometre pastoral estate in the scenic Lachlan River valley, about midway between Crookwell and Cowra.

The space
The Empire of Atlantium is the only country you can drive to from Australia.

Atlantium was founded in Sydney in 1981 by a trio of teenagers, and has since grown into a global civil society organisation and micronation with citizens in over a hundred countries.

We acquired a 200 acre pastoral estate near Reids Flat, NSW, in 2008, and have been developing it ever since as our ceremonial capital.

We have our own government house (the Golden House), post office, pyramid and an assortment of other monuments and buildings.

Now we're opening our borders for the first time to visitors from Australia and beyond.

If that's not unique we don't know what is!

Guest access
Atlantium is entirely independent of the Australian power, gas and water grids; Government House is equipped with LP gas fridge, stove and BBQ facilities, kerosene and woodfired heating, and solar-powered lighting. The bathroom includes a waterless composting toilet. An outdoor shower is also available.

To ensure the safety of guests, gas fuses are fitted to all gas appliances in Atlantium.

In addition to enjoying the amenities of Government House, guests have full access to the 0.76 sq kilometres (200 acres) of natural bushland that lies within Atlantium's borders.

They may enjoy hiking, bird-watching, mountain bike riding, picnicking or swimming in our unspoilt forests, fields and lakes, whilst taking in often breathtaking views of the surrounding Australian countryside.

They can also visit the only pyramid in Australia, along with several other commemorative monuments.

Official Atlantium souvenirs, such as stamps, coins, banknotes, postcards and flags can all be purchased from the post office.

Other things to note
Atlantium is located in an isolated rural location, at the end of a 100 metre-long rough dirt and gravel driveway, and is surrounded by untamed grasslands and forests that are filled with all sorts of wildlife - including insects, spiders, snakes, lizards, birds and marsupials. If you cannot cope with this, we strongly advise prospective visitors NOT to book with us.

Temperatures can be hot in summer - very hot - and because we are off-grid we do NOT have air conditioning or electric fans. Conversely, winter can be cold - cold enough to snow; if you want to use the wood stove you WILL need to go outside and collect firewood yourself. We provide thousands of trees and an axe; YOU provide the labour. Despite our best efforts we have not yet attained the power to control the weather - so if temperature extremes bother you, please do NOT book with us.

Atlantium is located in a mobile coverage black spot; there is NO access to the internet, and only very limited mobile voice access, from the top of the hill behind Government House. If you need to make a call you will need to walk 50 metres through the long grass to the top of the hill and stand on the "phone rock" while facing east. If being technologically bereft and uncontactable sends you into fits of apoplexy, please do NOT book with us.

Electronic devices can be charged via a USB charger attached to our solar lighting system - but it is a very SLOW process - and visitors will need to bring their own USB charger for anything other than Android devices. If the possibility of your phone or iPad battery dying sends shivers down your spine, bring your own solar charger or else do NOT book with us.

Accommodation at Atlantium is in a modest 10 x 3m one-room cabin. Facilities are comfortable but basic. They include solar lights, a gas fridge which is a bit tricky to switch on if you've never done it before, a 2-burner gas stove and an outdoor shower with a limited water supply that is fed at very low pressure from a rooftop tank. There is a radio, but no television and no access to streaming services such as Netflix. If any of these facts cause you to recoil in horror, DO NOT book with us.

In between visits by paying guests Atlantium is frequently occupied by the owner and their family, so bedding is regularly changed and cleaned. If for some reason guests find their bedding unsatisfactory, they are more than welcome to change the sheets themselves - a supply of clean linen is kept permanently in the closet, in clearly marked box. Likewise, clean towels for the use of guests are kept in the chest of drawers.

We do not provide a concierge service. We do not carry your bags for you. We cannot provide you with transportation to local attractions or public transport hubs. We are not an hotel or motel. If you require that level of service DO NOT book with us.

There are plenty of Airbnb hosts who will be happy to charge you $400 a night for the privilege of wallowing in luxury. We are not them.

We should also point out that the only reason we have found it necessary to outline the above in such an explicit and tiresome detail is because a number of previous guests have chosen to complain about each and every item mentioned above.

If you think you might also be so inclined, please DO NOT BOOK with us.

I've been Emperor of Atlantium since 27 November 1981. I look forward to meeting you during your stay in Australia's smallest country.
During your stay
How often have you met the king, president or prime minister of the countries you've lived in or visited?

The monarch of Atlantium - Emperor George II - is, by contrast, a very down-to-earth fellow, and enjoys meeting and interacting with visitors to his country.

He also wears the sort of sashes and bling that monarchs usually do, and you can call him "Your Imperial Majesty" if you really want to. Ladies may curtsy if they wish, but we don't insist on it.
