Where you’ll be

Halifax, North Carolina, United States

Our town is one of the most historic towns in NC. Incorporated in 1757, it was the political epicenter of Colonial NC. The Halifax Resolves were written and adopted here, the first formal call for independence from Great Britain. This bold formal call for independence helped our forefathers adopt the Declaration of Independence 3 months later. The NC State Constitution was drafted here. John Paul Jones the Revolutionary War Naval Hero and Father of the American Navy adopted his name Jones from a Halifax resident who took John Paul in and helped him get his first naval commission. Lafayette visited Halifax and had a dear patriot friend here. William R Davie lived here, Father of the University of NC at Chapel Hill. George Washington visited here. Sir Archie, one of the country's first great thouroughbreds was owned by William R Davie here in Halifax. Sir Archie is the foundation sire of Man O'War, Secretariat, Seabiscuit as well as others. In the era before Kentucky horse racing, this area was known for horse racing. Halifax is home to one of the oldest Masonic Lodges and was home to Joseph Montfort, the first, last and only Grand Master of the Masons of and for America. Willie Jones was an early resident of Halifax. Willie Jones is the gentleman from whom John Paul Jones took his name, but he is also considered the real founder of Raleigh. He also played a major role in ensuring the Bill of Rights was added to our US Constitution. This is just a smidgen of the important history of Halifax that you can discover while here. It's my passion to see that our rich history is preserved and shared with others.

I am a native of Halifax who left home at 18 to go to college in Europe to study art and design. I had a 30 year career at Marriott International as Vice President of Global Design Stratagies traveling the world for work. My love for my small town made me leave my corporate career, return home and try to revitalize my small home town. So, I hope you enjoy our town, our people, our history and simple lifestyle!
