Spiral House at CloudFarm is a beautifully designed round house made for two—a romantic, private hideaway perched on the highest point of the Illawarra escarpment.
Completely surrounded by forest and sky, it’s made for slowing down and remembering what matters.
Wake to mountain-to-sea views, soak in the open-air tub, and let the quiet—broken only by birdsong—do its work.

More About CloudFarm
CloudFarm spans 13.35 hectares atop the Illawarra escarpment, nearly 800 metres above sea level. Mount Murray is the core of an ancient volcano, and its basaltic soils and high rainfall nurture a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
The land holds remnants of endangered temperate rainforest and tableland basalt forest, now slowly regenerating beneath drifting mists and cool mountain air.
CloudFarm forms part of the Thin Green Line Project—a vital wildlife corridor connecting native vegetation and species from Victoria to Queensland. This ridge east of Robertson is one of the corridor’s narrowest points, making conservation work here especially important.
Every stay at CloudFarm directly supports the ongoing ecological restoration and protection of this precious landscape.

Safety & Access
Smoking is not permitted inside Spiral House. There’s an ashtray provided outside—please use it and never flick cigarette butts into the tussock grass; it’s highly flammable.
The path down to the house is uneven and includes stairs. If you’re arriving after dark, please bring a torch.
Like many Australian country properties, Cloud Farm has its share of uneven ground, rocky outcrops, and the occasional falling branch. Snakes, spiders, and other small locals are part of the ecosystem here—please tread with awareness.
CloudFarm is also a nature reserve, and the driveway is shared by both humans and wildlife. Please drive slowly—especially at dusk and night. The chocolate-coloured swamp wallabies often graze near the drive, and wombats can appear suddenly at night when startled by headlights. They’re built like furry bowling balls and don’t yield easily, so please drive slowly—especially after dusk. In more than twenty-five years we’ve only lost one wombat—let’s keep it that way.
Visitors enter at their own risk. We accept no liability for injury, loss, or damage that may occur during your stay.
Potential hazards aside, this is a place of rare beauty. We’re grateful for your visit and hope you find peace in the mist, the silence, and the birdsong on the mountain top.
Other things to note
And a quick note on spiders: this is the Australian bush, and they’re part of the landscape. We do our best to relocate any friendly critters before guests arrive, but if you have strong arachnophobia, we can’t guarantee a completely spider-free stay. For most visitors they’re a rare, harmless cameo; for those who are deeply uncomfortable, it’s better to know in advance.
About the Location
Spiral House sits at the top of Mt Murray, about a kilometre up our private driveway. Part of the drive is gravel, and access to the house is via a short track through a paddock. Any normal two-wheel-drive car is fine—just take it slow. If you’re in a very low sports car, best to check with us first about driveway conditions.
Up on the escarpment, the weather has a mind of its own. You may get sun, mist, rain, wind, and blue sky all in a single afternoon. It’s also usually around six degrees cooler than Sydney or the coast.
CloudFarm earned its name from the mists that drift up the mountain, wrapping everything in soft silver. On humid summer days the fog can roll in and linger, giving the whole place a dreamlike, other-worldly mood.
Provisions & Supplies
To keep things simple—and minimise waste—we provide basic staples: tea, ground coffee, milk, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, paper towel, foil, and cling wrap.
For proper grocery shopping, Moss Vale, Mittagong, and Bowral all have full supermarkets (Woolworths, Aldi, Coles, Harris Farm ) and are perfect for stocking up before heading up the mountain.
For quick top-ups, Robertson village is only six kilometres away and has a good little supermarket and an excellent green grocer.

The path down to the house is uneven and includes stairs. If you’re arriving after dark, please bring a torch. The track is grassy and, like any grass, can get a bit slippery when wet. There are some uneven patches underfoot, so take it steady and you’ll be fine.
And yes, this is the Australian bush. The land is full of life—birds, wallabies, spiders, the odd snake, and all the usual characters. Otherwise, just tread with awareness and enjoy the ecosystem doing what ecosystems do.
