A cozy plot of land right on the banks of the Mekong River, 5km from Hong Ngu, Dong Thap. Enjoy a house to yourself, where you can relax on our garden, have a barbecue in the outdoor grill, and a view of the sunset reflecting over the waters of the Mekong.

Perfect for a weekend getaway from urban Saigon or for a Mekong Delta adventure, here, travelers can gain an authentic perspective of Vietnamese culture which remains largely untouched by the tourist industry.

The space
Hong Ngu is at the epicenter of Vietnam's 'rice basket', and has some of the most productive farmland of the country. It is not known for its tourism where very few people in the area can speak English, but with that said, visitors can gain an authentic perspective of Vietnamese life.

It is also on the road to Cambodia, and is a perfect rest stop for a cycling or moterbike trip.

Where you’ll be

Thị xã Hồng Ngự, Đồng Tháp, Vietnam

Hong Ngu is pretty much untouched by the tourist industry. You can enjoy a walk through the vast expanse of rice fields and stroll through the madness of the local market. The area is also a hub for aquaculture, so contact us to arrange a trip to a nearby farm for some fishing or just to see how local people live. I myself am an aquaculture consultant, and take the time to visit farms whenever I am down there.

One of the main attractions in the area is Tram Chim National Park, one of the largest wetland reserves in the delta. It is especially good for bird watching, as experts from around the globe come here to survey the species that pass through. Let us know if you would like to arrange a trip with a park ranger.

The area is also within arm's reach of the Cambodian border market where there are many useful appliances sold at low prices. Let us know if you would like to arrange a day trip there. Unfortunately the market is restricted from those without Vietnamese citizenship, but if you are Vietnamese it's quite an experience.

An American-Vietnamese fish farming consultant in Saigon.
The property, Hong Ngu Homestay, has been in my mom's side of the family for more than 3 generations and my uncle still lives in the area. The land in Hong Ngu is a place I've flown to visit every year from the US since I was 3 months old.

After finishing my studies in Marine Biology and then in Aquaculture, I moved to Saigon and have been working there for the past 2 years as an aquaculture consultant. Hong Ngu is one of my favorite places to go, as it's a fish farming haven. I often visit friends who have catfish and tilapia farms in the area.

You can probably tell that I'm new to AirBnB, but I hope to give you as authentic an experience of Vietnam as possible.
