Less than 15 minutes from Tryon International Equestrian Center, this new home sits in the middle of 26 private acres. The property is a shiitake mushroom farm within the city limits. You won’t see or hear people from other homes, yet you have an easy walk from the house to downtown Forest City. Enjoy the delights of the beautiful downtown, enjoy scenic mountain views from the front porch, or catch some awesome sunsets from the back deck with firepit and propane grill.

The space
This unusual property is a working organic farm that specializes in growing delicious Shiitake mushrooms. Several areas of the property are planted with constant rotations of vegetables while a hoop house facilitates nearly year-round harvests.

The family room is an open concept space with 15-foot high ceilings, mountain views, two sofas and comfy chairs overlooking the wood-burning fireplace (always stocked) and large-screen TV. The space is open to the dining area and kitchen.

Guest access
The stylish fully appointed kitchen features all granite countertops, double oven, ice and water dispensing side-by-side frig, large ceramic farmhouse sink, dishwasher, microwave drawer, and huge center island. Coffee maker, blender, toaster, pots and pans, and complete table settings for 12.

Other things to note
Now there are two beehives for making honey located on the property. The location is about a quarter mile from the house.

We grow thousands of shiitake mushrooms on the property and sometimes do fee-based classes for those who are interested in inoculating an oak log to take home.

We have two hoop houses for growing three season veggies and a small green house for seedlings. We also tend about an acre of perennial flowers and ornamental grasses and plant another acre of veggies outside. When available, we are happy to answer your questions about the operations while you are staying on the property.

A small stream bubbles its way across a lower section of the property, and the adventurous can reach it by walking the hilly trails that are cut through the wooded spaces.

Forest City (at your doorstep) is a vibrant, great small town. The Tryon International Equestrian Center is less than 15 minutes away on 70 mph limit highways. A city park is an easy walk from the property. It contains shelters, playground equipment, volleyball court, and baseball diamonds. The Forest City Owls play an active schedule at McNair Park, less than a mile away from the house. This baseball attraction has great seating, food, beer and snacks for a wonderful summer night activity. The crack of a bat can sometimes be heard from the property.

The property owner (always available by text or phone) is a former management consultant who retired to become a full-time farmer. He lives in separate, yet similarly appointed quarters on a lower level. Available to answer questions, he works the farm and fades quickly into the background - so you have complete privacy whenever you desire.
