Where you’ll be

Tambon San Kamphaeng, Chang Wat Chiang Mai, Thailand

Sankhamphaeng is a suburb of Chiang Mai famous for it's handicrafts and manufacturing of teak furniture, silk and ceramics. Recently Bosang village has been featured on the Michael Portillo TV Series "Great Asian Railway Journeys" and Michael learned how to make traditional mulberry paper umbrellas and how to waterproof them.
The village itself is approx a 10 minute drive and has a good selection of shops and markets.
On the main Sankhamphaeng Road running through the village you can use the white Songthaew Taxi pickups. They run every 10 mins or so from Sankhamphaeng to the centre of Chiang Mai. The journey takes around 30 mins depending on traffic and you really get a feel for everyday life in Thailand. The fare is about £1 each way but these vehicles won't have air conditioning and are basicly a pick up with 2 bench seats.
Across the road from our house is a good size daily market open 7 days a week plus a 7-11 convenience shop. There are also numerous restaurants and a bakery.
