This is a cottage and two outbuildings without running water or electricity on a gorgeous secluded cove in Downeast Maine. There is a gas stove, refrigerator and lights and a composting toilet, as well as an outhouse. It is very comfortable. Water is procured from a well which is a short drive from the cottage. Large buckets and milk jugs are provided for storage. Internet service is by cell phone only.

The space

You will feel removed from the bustle of the world at this peaceful spot. Our family has owned it for thirty years and the kids grew up in the summers without amenities....a great experience. Beds: 2 queen, 3 double, 1 single, 2 bunks. There is a large washroom with a sink and a composting toilet as well as a very nice outhouse. We get our water from a town well a short drive from the cottage. You can launch a kayak or canoe from the tidal beach in front to have a picnic on a white sandy beach across the cove. At high tide, you can swim in front of the cottage. There is no ambient light at night, making the stars seem close enough to touch. Sit on the deck or lie in the hammock and enjoy the view of the cove, lobster boats, and islands beyond.

Guest access

Guests have access to the main cottage and the "boathouse" which has a queen size bed and is practically on the water. There is also a large storage shed on the property and two canoes guests can use. The town well is a short drive down the road. The Woodward Preserve, a scenic hike through moss filled woods and rocky coastline, is two miles down the road from cottage on left.

Interaction with guests

We will not be interacting with the guests except by phone and/or email as we are not nearby.

Other things to note

The cottage has lots of information with suggestions for scenic hikes and walks, good restaurants and more. There is cell phone service.

Second summer in a row up in Harrington Maine. The cottage is beautifully decorated in an artistic fashion which really adds to the charm. Everything you need is there. It's incredible how your nervous system unwinds to an exquisite degree of relaxation as soon as you arrive. Made friends with the hummingbirds and a beautiful pelenicid wasp. Full moon or new moon, high tide or low tide, it's all unbelievably beautiful.

Beautiful location and so peaceful! We spent a week unplugged and enjoying nature and being together. Great location for day trips to Bar Harbor and Lubec (Campobello) and perfect access to water. We were so relaxed and happy.

Don't let the lack of electricity or running water scare you away. If you can't have a wonderful time here, you need to re-evaluate some things!

Secluded and super private location. Extreme quietude and proximity to nature. Extra work involved in getting water etc., made up in magical atmosphere. Off the grid meditation and contemplation extraordinaire!

My family of 4 (2 parents, 2 kids & 2 dogs) stayed at Anne's summer cottage for the past week. We are from Western Maine and have spent lots of time in the Acadia and Mid Coast regions, so we were looking to experience a true taste of Downeast Maine. This was my first AirBnB experience, and overall the week was great. Anne left detailed instructions that were easy to follow and covered all of the ins and outs of staying at a house that is without common utilities. My family found the week without televisions, computers and dishwashers cathartic. The house is spacious and easy to adjust to. There are 4 bedrooms inside the main house (1 queen, 1 full & twin, 1 bunk bed and 1 full), a boathouse cottage with a queen bed on the waterfront and another large outbuilding with a queen bed and a couple bunks without mattresses. The first half of the week was gorgeous and we enjoyed canoeing to the sandbar (about a 20 minute easy paddle- pay attention to the tides!) where we had as close to a private beach experience as I've ever had. The second half of the week was drizzly, so we explored area sites (Jasper Beach in Machiasport and the neat town of Milbridge) and did A LOT of reading (there are some great books for adults and kids alike ready to be read at the camp). Our internal clocks adjusted over the course of the week so that we're now rising and sleeping with the sun (perfect for the transition back to school). The house has a great playroom with books and games that my kids enjoyed and outdoors there's a hammock and swing that kids and adults alike enjoy. The gas refrigerator, stove and lights in the house were super easy to use (tip: the instructions say to push down on the lever of the gas lights to light, but 2 of them actually need to get pushed up) and we cooked every day at the house. Fetching water from the local well was a good grounding experience- we are likely to think about conserving water more at our home now that we've had to haul all the water we use. I highly recommend visiting Anne's camp for a coastal Maine experience you'll never forget.

Part of me doesn't want to leave this review because I don't want this magical place to be spoiled! This cottage is by far the most lovely home I have rented on AirBnb. My boyfriend and I spent a week here enjoying the peaceful surroundings and unplugging from our busy lives in NYC. Although the house lacks modern amenities we found it clean, cozy, and equipped with everything one might need for a week of relaxation. We loved the sun showers surrounded by hummingbirds and watching osprey dive for fish in the cove. The area is very rustic with not much to offer other than groceries and liquor. Nature is the star here -- and the porch at Anne's cottage is the perfect place to take it all in! Acadia is an hour's drive but we found the scenery in the immediate area to rival it. Although we never met, Anne kindly answered all our questions and made us feel very much at home. What a joy this place is, we hope to return some day!

A very special Place ! Everything was well prepared , we did not miss anything. To live without electricity and running water is a very special experience, but our Host prepared us well. Sitting on the porch, watching the sun rise, wile the water comes in the bay....wouw ! Anne had a lot of excellent restaurant and places to visit recommendations, this was very helpful. We stayed their with our two kids (15 and 12 years ) and they had a lot of fun using the canoe and getting the water from the well. We would come again ! Thank you !
