Completely self contained, cosy Loft accomodation for 2 with own parking space for 1 vehicle. Cleaned & disinfected by a team of professional cleaners after each visit. Accessed by code lock, via private entrance off a pretty courtyard. On the edge of a tranquil rural hamlet, amid the fields & fells of the Lake District National Park. Next to the owners’ traditional Lakeland 18th century stone cottage. Offers modern conveniences whilst retaining the charming character of the old building.

The space
The Loft at Lamplugh Green provides well equipped, clean, warm, first floor accommodation for two people.

This area of Cumbria was granted UNESCO World Heritage Status in 2017 and makes an ideal base for touring north-west Cumbria, hiking and climbing, an en-route stopover for the C2C Cycleway or a peaceful, romantic location for a countryside retreat.

Inside:
The Loft has a cosy yet firm double bed which will be made up with fresh bedding for your visit.

The kitchen area is well equipped for self catering, having an under-counter fridge with freezer compartment, toaster, kettle, a two-ring electric oven, cafetière coffee pot, crockery & cutlery, kitchen utensils, pots and pans, plenty of storage space and is provisioned with cooking basics. It's also supplied with dish cloths, tea towels and cleaning products.

Fresh towels are provided in the ensuite shower room along with shampoo & conditioner, shower gel, hand soap and toilet rolls. The shower room contains a shower, hand - wash basin, toilet, heated towel rail, shelf unit and storage drawers.

There’s free Wi-fi, and a flat screen Smart TV with Satellite and Freeview channels. The Loft also has a CD player / radio and there are plenty of local area maps, books and board games for you to borrow during your stay. Recommendations for local walking & cycle routes as well as restaurants, cafes, Inns and visitor attractions can be found in the blue files. Secure storage can be made available for your cycles.

The wardrobe cupboard has a mobile clothes rail, hangers, portable fire escape ladder and its own internal light

The utility area downstairs in the lobby has a washer / dryer (washing liquid & conditioner provided), iron & ironing board, recycling bags, hooks for hanging outdoor coats and a black rubber mat for muddy walking boots and shoes.

Please note: Smoking / vaping is not permitted in The Loft.

Outside:
Guests are welcome to use the table and chairs set out in the Courtyard area. Our pretty, wild-life friendly garden and the surrounding fields, fells and woodland are home to roe deer, hares, badgers, red squirrels, foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits and a wide variety of bird life. Listen out for the woodpecker, cuckoo and owls. We are visited regularly by a cock pheasant who struts his way down across the field and garden. You may also see the neighbouring farmers’ special breed sheep and pet goat grazing in the fields.

The Loft has a parking space for one vehicle, located in front of the black wooden garage doors.

Guest access
Guests have exclusive use of The Loft, the lobby & stairs leading up to The Loft, and the Courtyard outside. There are garden chairs and a table in the Courtyard for Guests to use, overlooking our pretty, wildlife-friendly cottage garden, the fields and fells.
Secure storage can be made available for bikes by prior arrangement.

Other things to note
The Loft is accessed via a staircase.

Lamplugh is a beautiful rural location. The nearest shop for basic supplies is half a mile away at Inglenook Caravan Park, Fitz Bridge, Lamplugh, CA14 4SH (seasonal opening only, 10 - 5). There are larger supermarkets (Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl - open: Mon to Sat, 8 - 8. Sun, 10 - 4) and independent bakers, greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers etc in Cockermouth where you can buy supplies if you’ve not brought them with you. The nearest garage for buying your petrol / diesel is on the A66 / A5086 roundabout, on the outskirts of Cockermouth.

Please do not use our neighbours’ gardens as turning places; reverse out of the designated parking space on to the lane and drive on past The Loft and Ghyll Cottage. 100 yards on, turn right at the end of our little lane onto the bigger lane (Stye Gate) and drive 1 mile to go back down to the main Cockermouth / Egremont road (A5086), or for Loweswater, take the first right turning 50 yards on.

The Loft is a non smoking property. Please do not smoke or vape in any part of The Loft. You may smoke or vape outside, in the Courtyard, where you’ll find a sand filled flower pot for your cigarette ends.

When you leave The Loft, either during your stay or at the end, please ensure that all the windows are closed, particularly the Velux window above the bed. If it rains whilst you’re out the bedding and mattress will get soaked in a surprisingly short time.

Please ensure that you lock the lobby door when you go out.

The Loft is not suitable for children or pets.

Please report any damage / breakages to the property & contents and if any appliances are faulty and need to be repaired / replaced during or after your stay.

Due to their schedule, our cleaners arrive promptly at check out time, 10.00am, on the day of your departure and will need access to The Loft to prepare it for the next guests.

If you decide to do any ironing, please use the ironing board rather than the bed.

Please treat The Loft with kindness and leave it as you find it. Thank you.

Location

Lamplugh, England, United Kingdom

Lamplugh is a picturesque cluster of homes and farms surrounding the Grade II* listed church of ‘St Michaels and All Angels’. There are many quiet lanes, by-ways, woods, fells and river sides to explore straight out of The Loft's door.

This area of outstanding natural beauty boasts Loweswater (the Lake) about 2.5 miles away, Ennerdale Water and Crummock Water, both about 4 miles away, and Buttermere, Bassenthwaite and Wastwater just beyond. Here you can enjoy a leisurely lakeside stroll or perhaps a more energetic walk over the local fells, so beloved by Alfred Wainwright, who wrote the famous Wainwright Guides to The Lake District.

For those who prefer to see the landscape on horseback, pony trekking is available at Bradley’s Riding Centre on Cold Fell above Ennerdale.

Boat hire is available at Crummock (National Trust) and on Derwentwater at nearby Keswick.

Keen climbers will find many good outdoor rock faces in West Cumbria. Honister Slate Mine offers a guided Via Ferrata, along the old route that miners would have used. There are also two good climbing centres in Keswick which cater for adults & children and offer guided outdoor climbing & ghyll scrambling (weather permitting) and a ‘Clip and Climb Centre’ in Maryport.

As well as the delightful rural Inns and Pubs, the local towns of Cockermouth, Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport and further afield, Penrith and Carlisle, provide shops, supermarkets, theatres, cinemas, night clubs, cafes, restaurants, museums, art galleries and other Visitor Attractions.

I love living in the country surrounded by fields and fells. Towns & cities are great for visiting for short periods of time before returning to the peace and tranquility of my home. I'm a retired Counsellor and Psychotherapist and enjoy having more time for cycling, walking, climbing, canoeing, gardening, making cobbled paths, weaving willow and spending time with my friends and family. I love to sing with a couple of local community choirs, which are made up of a group of people whose aim is to make lovely harmonies and have the best fun whilst doing it. I'm married to Dave, who's a musician and lecturer/ researcher in community music and I have grown up children and a grandson. Since starting to host on AirBnB I've met some wonderful people from all over the world and enjoy sharing the best of West Cumbria with them.
