Deer Cottage is set in the grounds of a wonderful garden and backs onto the woods, yet 5 mins from Tunbridge Wells. The property is on the edge of a 3000 acre estate, where deer and rabbits hop about, Ideal for families and dogs are very welcome too.

The space

Just an hour from London, Deer Cottage is 2 separate dwellings next to each other; a bathroom and 2 bedrooms - a super king bed in a large room & a small twin/double room. The other building has a fully equipped kitchen and sitting room with a log burning stove. This arrangement works well when one party (i.e. children) have gone to bed and the other can stay up without worrying about noise.
There is a south facing terrace overlooking our pretty garden and a large expanse of lawn. It gets sun-drenched in the afternoon and evening, a perfect place for a BBQ and hanging out together, where wisteria climbs around a shaded overhang.

This is a unique property where you can be left to your own privacy, yet there are other people around - alone but not lonely! Simon and I live in the main house opposite Deer Cottage and we have people living in the Old Kennels and other converted outhouses, further away from the house.

Guest access

You have access to the surrounding woods, with walks across the local deer park, an ideal place for seeing wildlife and hearing birdsong, but minutes from the historic Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells.

Interaction with guests

We are very friendly artistic family who love to interact and show guests the local area, yet also realize people like to be left to their own devices. Living on the property means we are there should you need anything.

Charming and quirky cottage in extensive gardens and woodland. Wonderful to have a log fire warming the cottage on arrival. Celia even left us a fantastic lemon drizzle cake to welcome us!

We had a lovely weekend in Celia's cottages. The bed/bath cottage was warm and cosy, the bed is very comfortable. In the kitchen/living room cottage next door, Simon lit the fire for us in the mornings and evenings. Celia had left us some lovely bacon and eggs, pastries, milk and cake. It's set in a very peaceful spot of woodland, we had a short walk but unfortunately ran out of time for a longer one. In short, a wonderful place to visit with delightful hosts.

Lovely, quaint location and friendly hosts. The cottages are well kept and the log burner was a lovely comfort at this time of year. There were also plenty of heaters dotted around to keep us warm. Celia and Simon were around to answer any questions. All in all a lovely, quiet break.

The cottage is lovely - very secluded and rustic. Celia is a good host and willing to accommodate requests. It was a brief, but lovely stay.

The place was amazing - big area with 2 buildings private to ourselves. Lovely cottage which housed the living room and kitchen. Celia helped us setting the fire up each day although we would have gladly done it ourselves. There were eggs, milk, cookies and fruit cake in the kitchen. Apples from the trees nearby. Great place and an amazing host.

I am enjoying life at 75 with my husband Simon. I have 5 children and 10 grand children. I am a garden designer, having had the chance to be a pupil at RHS headquarters at Wisley, and learn garden design from Diarmuid Gavin (all filmed for a 5 part series on BBC 2) I went on to do a Show garden at BBC Gardener’s World Live in Birmingham sponsored by Warburtons Bakery. I now design gardens locally. I would love to show tenants some of the wonderful private gardens in the area.
