Experience the unparalleled beauty of Nicaragua at Casa Arbol the ultimate tree house. Our two story treehouse villa sleeping up to four guests overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is located in one of Central America's largest private wildlife corridors- the community of Balcones de Majagual, making for incredible wildlife sightings a daily occurrence. Enjoy the shared pool, modern amenities, wildlife, wifi- everything is here to make this the vacation of your dreams- we can't wait to host you!

The space

Casa Arbol is a 2-story treehouse (yes!) that overlooks the Pacific Ocean in one of Central America's largest private wildlife corridors, making for incredible wildlife sightings an almost daily occurrence. A five-minute drive down our private road will take you to three of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Playa Maderas, Playa Playones and Playa Majagual.

This house is proud to be part of a community spearheading eco-friendly vacations without sacrificing luxury- Balcones de Majagual

Casa Arbol was built to be the perfect balance of tropical open-air living and modern comfort. High ceilings provide extraordinary views through our state-of-the-art screen system. This unique amenity brings you the fresh air, the crashing of waves, and the calls of exotic birds -- all while making sure nothing but the fresh air actually comes inside. The home overlooks a low valley and its position is perfect for some extraordinary bird and monkey watching from inside the house or on our two decks.

The house is supported by massive eucalyptus trunks and curved wood ceilings built from sustainable timber. Wi-Fi internet is available throughout the house and grounds. The living room features a new large flat screen TV, a Sony audio system, DVD library, art collection, and leather and wood furniture and furnishings by the architect who designed the home.

The master and guest bedrooms both have forest and ocean views, custom lighting, and their own bathrooms with beautiful stonework throughout. In keeping with the eco-conscious nature of the house, piping hot water is provided by our solar hot water heater.

Our recently upgraded battery-backup system provides silent power for the house even during Nicaragua's brief power outages, so you will not hear noisy generators running and your trip will not be interrupted.

We have a fully equipped kitchen, a new refrigerator, a microwave, gas oven/stove, and purified water available for your convenience. Travel to nearby San Juan del Sur for local fruits and vegetables, some of the freshest fish you’ll ever eat, and meat and poultry that are the very definition of free-range.

A 15-minute walk or a 4-minute drive takes you through forest canopies right to Playa Majagual and private, secluded luxury. From the beach, walk north to explore the tide-pools or south to one of the world’s best surf-breaks. But you may decide to just stay put and sunbathe, have a picnic in the private palapa, body surf in the perfect waves, stare in wonder at the sunset, or all of the above.

Bird and wildlife watching from the house or on the many hiking and nature trails, is incomparable. Howler monkeys live in the trees around the house in large numbers – and you will hear them each day around sundown as they prepare for the night. November thru April is Ocelot and Margay cat season – and we have seen them on many occasions. Kinkajou will likely visit at night next to the porch in the canopy, where the fruits they loves grow and ripen in the green months, May through November. Sloth, Coatimudi and a multitude of other animals will all visit at various times.

Enjoy the custom stonework, stone showers and countertops, outdoor shower and the hammock on the pool deck An additional sunset deck in the very tops of the trees above the house provides the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or watch the sun set in the evenings over the Pacific below. The Master bedroom is an incredible space, all stone, wood, custom lighting and furniture. The vista of the ocean below or the night sky surrounding you -- after lights out it is difficult to tell whether you are indoors or outdoors. Magical.

A gorgeous shared plunge pool set on the edge of the hill allows for incredible view of the Pacific- particularly at sunset!

Concierge services are included in the cost and they can arrange for zip-lines and canopy tours, surfing lessons, fishing expeditions, Spanish lessons, and professional massages on site. Parking, cleaning services, gardening and pool service, and around-the-clock security are also included.

If you are looking for a night on the town, San Juan del Sur, and its fantastic line of beachfront restaurants and bars, is just 8 kilometers away. There is even a small casino if you want to play cards or slots. And if you want to know our favorite places to eat and drink, just ask. We can also give hints about discounts in the area.

Whether watching a Kinkajou eat from the trees in front of you while relaxing in the pool, learning to howl like a Howler monkey out on the observation deck, or eating your first homemade bowl of gallo pinto, Casa Arbol is guaranteed to give you a vacation you will never forget.

My wife and I spent a few days here for our honeymoon. The place was spectacular. Howler monkeys above to welcome us and breathtaking views. A little removed from town and four wheel drive a necessity to get back and forth, but we were very pleased. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed here with a friend and we had a great time! It was the end of our trip, after being in Nicaragua for just under 1 month. It was a great way to end our travels. The view was breathtaking and the pictures are exactly as is. Very wise of the owners to require you to rent a vehicle. It was very handy, especially for the drive to get to Balcones. We were sent to rent a vehicle off of Dollar Rental. They were very nice and helpful, but there are other options in San Juan to rent that have a cheaper deposit if you are travelling on a budget. Also, the kitchen is fully equipped as says, and has everything you need to once you go shopping, but make sure to ask around for good places to eat around Playa Maderas if you aren't wanting to do too much cooking on vacation (one of our favourite spots to eat was Arte-Sano). Our guides from Remax were helpful and made us feel very comfortable with getting our rental and arriving at Casa Arbol. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for incredible views, being surrounded by nature, being close to the beach and having a beautiful place to stay on vacation.

Casa Arbol was great! Definitely a relaxing stay, and it was nice to be able to fall asleep to the sound of nature. The view was amazing as well. It's a beautiful home! You do need the 4WD, so definitely make the reservation. We booked with Dollar which was recommended to us. Elsi was also great and took us to the market to buy fruit and a couple of other stores to buy things for the beach. We ended up going to Pali on our way to Casa Arbol to buy the rest of our groceries so maybe the first trip to buy fruit wasn't necessary. I loved the secluded feel of the home and the drive as well. Also, I personally do not mind bugs, but my mom was not a big fan of them. You'll see spiders, roaches, and scorpions. Nothing too crazy (again you're in a well equipped treehouse in a jungle), but it is good to be a little cautious when putting on shoes or something. My son was fine with seeing bugs as well. I also loved that it was a short drive to the beach. We didn't use the pool, so not much to say about it. There was only one downside to our stay there. We didn't have hot water. I contacted Laura to see if it could be handled and she said the staff would take a look at it. I'm not sure if they did, but we didn't have hot water for our entire stay. Overall, I liked it.

Response from Angelique & Giuseppe:
Thank you for the review Adriana. In regards to the hot water it is solar heated and unfortunately (and unusually) we had overcast skies for a few days coinciding with your arrival meaning the water didn't get to come up to it's usually hot temperature. Our apologies for that.

We are just two travel loving people who fell in love with the country of Nicaragua and ended up buying our dream home! While we try and spend as much time there as possible, occasionally, we do have to work (Joel is a photographer and Laura a chef)- and we do want to keep discovering this amazing planet-current location is California though we are Canadians (Toronto in fact!). While we are doing this, we are happy to offer homes in our community to others to enjoy and discover this truly amazing country! San Juan del Sur Nicaragua is the place to come for travellers who are looking for surf, sunshine and a little adventure, and we try our best to make our home a little piece of luxury to come and relax in between all that fun! Through renting our own personal home - I fell into assisting my amazing neighbours in San Juan del Sur with renting their homes- the rest they say is history. You couldn't pick a better spot in Nicaragua- and you couldn't pick better guests than myself and my husband Joel!
