I studied Textile Design and Ceramics and jewellery in Dundee. I have a great local knowledge of Broughty Ferry having lived here most of my life. There is nowhere like it on earth. There are many golf courses within a 10 mile radius including Carnoustie, Monifieth and St Andrews, which is 17 miles from here. Broughty Ferry has at least 20 restaurants including Indian, Chinese, Tapas, Italian, fine dining, Thai and traditional fish and chips. Many of the pubs also serve delicious meals. I recommend the Ship Inn, The Fisherman's, The Fort, Royal Arch and the Tay Berry on the Esplanade for wonderful views across the Tay Estuary right across to Tentsmuir forest. There are many boutique style shops including Tiger Lily, Prego, Karen B (all ladies fashion)) The Place on Gray Street, (cool and funky interiors) The Cheesery, (cheese!) McNicoll and Cairnie, wine tasting (for 6 or more) booking essential. Gillies of Broughty Ferry furniture shop, M&S and many more independent retailers. Dundee city centre has Dundee Rep theatre which hosts shows for most tastes, from comedy to theatre and song. Gardyne theatre, Gardyne Road, Broughty Ferry is closer still with many big name acts playing there. There are many restaurants, pubs with live music and a vibrant club scene . There is a beautiful award winning Blue Flag sandy beach, a harbour and castle. In the summer months there are boat trips out on to the River Tay where you might spot the dolphins which frequent there. The train station has links to Carnoustie, (7 miles) St Andrews, (17) miles for the famous Old Course. Dundee is also the sunniest place in the UK. In the summer it is daylight sometimes till 11 at night, then sunrise again at 4. There are many beautiful walks either at the beach or travel a few miles inland there is Glamis Castle which hosts music events, vintage car events and craft fairs. There is a wonderful panoramic view of the city and river from the top of the Law hill which is an extinct volcano. There is a road which you drive up, luckily! Camperdown park is one of the many parks in the city and has a wildlife park featuring wolves, meerkats and other domestic and wild animals. Everything is on your doorstep but the house is quietly tucked away with enclosed child friendly garden which has no-one overlooking. Enjoy a seat in the garden relaxing or dine alfresco. The V&A Design Museum opened September 2018 the first design museum built in Scotland. The McManus gallery and museum is a beautiful traditional museum and the Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) has a cinema, restaurant, art studios and is a lovely place in central Dundee to enjoy a meal and drink.
