We had an amazing time at the cottage. We traveled via train from Tokyo and stayed two nights. The cottage, and surrounding area was beautiful. We had fun choosing food from the supermarket to cook in the cottage. On the first day, we walked to a cafe called "kitchen emu.." near the supermarket. The meal set was delicious. The walk took 1 half hours there and back - it was a good chance to see the surrounding area. On the second day we walked to the local shrine with the stairs - Keisuke pointed this out at the beginning of our stay. The Shrine and stairs were beautiful - be prepared for a very steep walk. All in all we loved our stay. Next time we'd love to bring a car to see the other spots in the area. Keisuke was a great host! TIP* if you stay in Autumn/ Winter make sure you bring warm clothes! The cottage has heating and a super warm, comfy bed, but we're so glad we visiting UNIQLO to buy heat tech garments for our trip!

Excellent retreat from Tokyo. Very quiet. Tall pines, rice paddies and a great walk up a 400 steps to a mountain top shrine.

Daigo's cabin is a super special place that was a highlight from our trip to Japan. It's exactly as described, but is something you need to experience yourself. The view of the mountains in the morning is incredible! Everything has been thought of by Daigo. We were continuously pointing out little details in the cabin that made the stay so comfortable. He met us when we got a little lost on the way and was so easy to communicate with. We would definitely recommend hiring a car to visit here. The hiking and trails around the mountains are some of the best we've ever done. In the town of Sakuho there is a perfect little farmers market with fresh vegetables from the area, and a small restaurant at the same spot where we bought amazing bento – seriously good cooking by the chef! The reviews were spot on. This place is the best!

This cottage is something else. In a trip where we watched the sunrise from Fuji, and stayed in luxurious museums, this ranks up there with the best memories. Daigo went above and beyond to ensure all our needs were met, and gave us extensive information about the area, even offering to drive us to a nearby onsen. This stay is a MUST for anyone wanting something completely different from your normal Japan experience

I can't rate this place highly enough. It is in a completely beautiful area and Daigo has created a very comfortable lovely cabin. He's put a lot of thought into it and I didn't really need anything that wasn't there. Daigo and his wife are lovely and do whatever they can to help. They went above and beyond for me and im super thankful for that. You will definitely want a car so you can explore the surrounding areas. I drove from Tokyo an it's an easy drive. Just need an international license Thanks heaps Daigo mate love your work x

Hello, I’m Daigo.
I live in a small village surrounded by mountains with my wife. The village name is Sakuho town in Nagano.
My life changed a lot by experiences of building a cottage with my friends, and of being big influenced from the summer-cottage culture in Finland.

My job and lifework is creating new countryside lifestyle and culture for our generation through building spaces by ourselves hands. I’m not professional carpenter, so it takes long time to build, but I would like to make spaces which is unique, individuality, warmly, and rooted in the lands.
At this moment, I have finished to build two spaces, one is a small cottage at a mountain side, and other one is renovated old small wooden house in the village. I would like to build more spaces little by little…

You must understand that food cultures in this area are really high when you stay here. Vegetables, fruits, fishes from mountain rivers, hams and sausages, breads, Japanese sake, cafes, restaurants… Many fascinating people build food cultures rooted in this area.
There are no famous sightseeing spots, but there are excellent lives.
I am so happy you enjoy our life cultures and spend relaxing time!
